Anyone worried about what Trump will do to democracy

We have all seen the US election and how Trump will not concede the Presidency to Biden. I am worried that Trump will try to use the Supreme Court to overturn the results to get a second term. Anyone else worried?

Nope.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 11/11/2020 19:55

He'll certainly try. We'll have to hope there are enough checks and balances in place to stop him.

Last I checked, 12 of his frivolous law suits have been thrown out, none have been let through.

From what I understand it would be only if the supreme court decided that valid, legal votes that arrived after 3rd November won't be counted. Even that probably won't be enough.

He's poisoned democracy, and I think that is permanent.

He has shown how easily many US politicians are turned to stay in power, and are no different to other tinpot 'rulers' around the world.
He has shown how easily people can be led against their own interests and communities, just back at 'the system'.

Forgetting democracy is meant to by the people for all the people.

AlexaShutUp · 11/11/2020 20:11

I'm sure he will try, but I am hoping that the US's legal system will prove robust enough to stand up to him. If it doesn't, then we really will have something to worry about.

He'll try and try, all the while tweeting away like the angry orange dickhead that he is. He'll get precisely nowhere and Biden will be sworn in on whatever day in January it is that he takes over. Trump will refuse to attend the inauguration and in the run up to it will burn as many legislative bridges as possible to leave an utter mess for Biden to deal with. He will spend the Biden years tweeting criticism and reminding everyone what a fantastic job he did when he was president. He'll run again in 2024, lose, and then repeat the entire cycle again.

I'm more worried about the angry young men (because its typically angry young men) who are reading his tweets, reading the tweets put out by his sons and his cronies, and seeing them as a call to action. I'd expect there might be some lone gunman type acts over the coming months due to the feelings Trump is trying to stir up.

No.

This

It is obvious that Trump is acting like a dictator. He is hoping for a civil uprising where he can then order the military on the streets against civilians, in the exactly the same way as all dictators around the world.

Well yes and no. He might try it, but he wont succeed. The checks and balances will kick in like they did with his immigration ban. It might take a while but they'll get there.
