Minor inconveniences that cause big inconveniences

In the grand scheme of things breaking the cord of the shower isolation switch seems relatively minor. But on closer examination, it needs the electrician to sort. So we have to use the bath until then (im pretty sure it will be a low priority repair).

So for mutual support, of a minor issue... Anyone else have minor breakages causing big problems at the moment? (Or in the past?)

That brings back memories! We;d just moved house, we had a newborn baby and it was freezing. The pilot light in our ancient back boiler blew out and DH couldn't work out how to re-light it, so we didn't have any heat or hot water. We called out a gas engineer and he said he couldn't legally light it for us because we didn't have a particular size of regulation vent hole in the wall. He called out a builder to create said hole, which took about ten minutes, cost £500 and filled the entire downstairs with brick dust. The gas engineer came back (charging us a second call-out charge, naturally), made a big show of re-lighting the pilot, and we had heat and hot water again, but he forgot to put the cover panel back on. After he'd gone, I picked the panel up to put it back and there was a sticker on the underside of it with the instructions DH could have used to re-light the pilot light himself.
