So a bit of background. I'm 37 weeks pregnant. Huge and uncomfortable. Trying to renovate/move house in the next 3 weeks before baby arrives. In between cars so have rented a little run around for a week.
Rushing today to meet the plumber at said new house as OH was running late at work, very carefully maneuvered the new driveway..... and royally hit the gate post Confused in the rental car, which doesn't have full insurance (I'm not in the UK it's not standard here before anyone calls me stupid) then I panicked and couldn't figure out how to reverse or go forward without bashing it more... so I did the only logical thing and got out, left the car half out the driveway and snottily cried to the plumber until he took pity and moved the car for me Blush it's dented both doors badly and full of scratches.

Please please someone tell me your stupid moments especially while pregnant so I can feel better!

Currently trying to muster the courage to call the rental company and tell them, also trying to swallow the fact that I've just run up a rather large excess bill into the thousands Sad

I have really rough pregnancies so I was only about 12 weeks pregnant but feeling completely shithouse.

Drove in to our work car park (past my boss who was out there talking to someone on the phone), pulled into a parking space that I had parked in hundreds of times before but pulled in too far and bumped in to the brick wall at the front of it.

Got out of the car and my boss disbelievingly says "did you just hit the wall??" I mumbled "uhuh", walked right past him into our staff toilet and burst in to big sobbing tears, rang my husband and was sobbing so hard he couldn't even figure out what I was saying lol.

Worst part is that the toilet window backs on to the car park so my boss would have heard the whole thing haha.

@Xiaoxiong your DH needs to learn to be as cantankerous as my DM Wink similar happened to her once. It wasn't a one way street but cars parked on both sides and you had to keep pulling in where you could
she drove round a corner and came face to face with a big 4x4. The driver started flapping and waving, then leaned out her window and shout GO BACK! to my DM. My DM smiled sweetly and said, the obstacle's on your side, pull in love so I can get past, I'm not reversing around a blind corner into traffic.

She quite happily sat there with the woman getting more and more enraged until she gave up and finally pulled her 4x4 into the space next to her Grin

We had just moved house and I had a 14 month old a newborn, loaded them into the car to go food shopping, did all that, took a while, drove home to see our front door wide open Shock convinced we had been burgled but it was just me not only forgetting to lock the front door but actually forgetting to close it.....never told my husband

I managed to sew straight over my thumb- the needle went right through my nail & broke Confused I have been using a sewing machine since about the age of 8 & I still have no idea how I managed it.

When about 8 weeks PG with third I set of with the other kids to take them swimming at the pool 15 mins away that we swam at every week. I couldn’t find it... ending up driving my increasingly confused children in circles for over an hour Grin

onetwothreeadventure · 11/11/2020 12:00

I fell asleep face down on the couch during a work meeting. Thankfully it was a few years ago before zoom and thankfully I wasn't asked to participate. I was only a few months pregnant and would have slept standing up if necessary!

ArcheryAnnie · 11/11/2020 12:02

When I was pregnant I killed three plug-in keyboards by knocking a cup of tea into them. I have never killed a keyboard before or since.

StoppinBy · 11/11/2020 12:08

@Zebracat lol, your story reminded me of something I once did.

Our chickens laid this really interesting egg, my 7yr old wanted to take it to school for show and tell so I decided to boil it first so it wouldn't make a mess if it got broken.

I put it on the stove top and forgot about it completely. Took my daughter to her gymnastics demonstration that her class was putting on and about 45 minutes in it twigged that I had left the egg on the stove.

I rushed out of there (my husband was there too so brought our daughter home) and run in the house to find the pot boiled dry and black ash on the bottom of it.....the rest of the egg had exploded and splattered all over the kitchen...........and I had to tell my daughter that I wrecked her show and tell lol.

we have the joie 360 seats for the dc (the ones which spin... this is important).

twice now i've strapped them in, and not spun them round. the first time, ds told me by saying "mummy i can see out my window" i carried on driving completely oblivious thinking "yep that's nice" only when i got to our destination (luckily only a short drive) did i realise...

oops. make sure i check in the mirror now once i get in the car to make sure they're the right way!

ChristmasRedSpottyScarf · 11/11/2020 12:10

I was on holiday in a tropical country abroad when about 7 months pregnant and was really REALLY excited to come across a dozing or sunbathing baby snake. So excited that i knelt down next to it for a very good look.

i have not idea WTAF I was thinking.

I still have no fucking clue what sort of snake it was. DH commented drily when I told him; 'If that was the baby, where was it's mother?'.

I think that is when it hit me that it might have been a little - foolhardy.

(I am brighter than that anecdote makes me sound- really).

poptartsarefood · 11/11/2020 12:17

I had loads. Went to work and left my keys in the front door (kind builders working on the house drove them to me). Left work with my house keys stuck in my desk drawer and didnt notice till I got home (same kind builders drove me to get them). This was all before I could drive and all key related. I also kept finding weird things in the fridge that I just left there, think letters, wallet, keys again Blush. Not good times

Wishforanishwishdiash · 11/11/2020 12:19

36 weeks pregnant with DS2 and I was giving an exam (uni lecturer). I raised my voice and yelled at a very annoying university student. During an exam. He WAS annoying, and I think the rest of class enjoyed it, but it is not how uni lecturers behave (especially in an exam). The baby was born 18 hours later .

With my third pregnancy I looked the other way while DH spent tens of thousands of pounds on an over the top garden renovation because I could not concentrate during the meetings with the designers and builders so agreed to everything so I could leave the room. I am still horrified. The garden is lovely, but we could have sent the child to uni with that money.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 11/11/2020 12:20

I reversed into the lamp post outside my house at 38 weeks. Probably shouldn't have attempted to drive.

A week after I gave birth we traded in for a car with parking sensors and a camera!

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 11/11/2020 12:23

Brought PFB home from hospital, having carefully strapped him into his car seat. Arrived home only to find I hadn't attached the seat to the car... God I felt stupid.

FlamingoQueen · 11/11/2020 12:33

I did the exact same thing with my car once. The only way to get it out from the gate posts was to cause twice as much damage! I wasn’t pregnant then though, however, I was once putting petrol (in the same car), turned round to face the pump and knocked the petrol cover flap off with my bump! I think that car was doomed!

meduskuka · 11/11/2020 12:49

Reversed into our own porch. Blush Was not pregnant, so no excuse really. Done a thousand pound worth of damage to the lease car and completely shattered my confidence.

IDontLikeZombies · 11/11/2020 12:53

When I went into labour with one of mine I rushed out, jumped into the waiting taxi and whizzed off to meet DH at the hospital. We had a bit of time of it and it took a while for DH to feel he could leave us. 2 days later DH went home to find I left the door wide open - in an inner city borough Blush

Luckily if any one had been in they didn't take anything or make a mess but it could have been a total disaster. As it was DH had to find a big stick and sweep the house for bad tins Grin

HazelBite · 11/11/2020 12:55

Never take a driving test when you are 35 weeks pregnant with twins!!!!

It took 2 years before I could pluck up enough courage to get back into a driving seat.

GibbertyFlibbet · 11/11/2020 12:58

I booked a short last minute break to France when I was about 25 weeks pg with DC4.

Turned up at Folkestone for our usual 2am Channel Tunnel crossing; got tickets out for booking code; realised they said “P&O”

Screeched off to Dover and made ferry by skin of our teeth, having to rouse three small and drowsy children in their PJs who we’d expected to sleep through the crossing.

The first few days of that holiday were rather tense Grin

Scrouge · 11/11/2020 13:01

I strained the pasta through the colander- just not over the sink🤣🤣🤣

mygrandchildrenrock · 11/11/2020 13:03

Oh dear, pregnancy hormones definitely do something to our brains.
When I was about 38 weeks pregnant I went to a small shopping centre to pick up some baby bits. I was driving a big people carrier, but one I'd driven many times before.
After I'd done the shopping I just couldn't get out of the parking space, I tried and tried and couldn't work out what to do.I sat there crying thinking I'd have to sit and wait for the carpark to empty when a very kind man saw me and came over to help. He reversed my car out effortlessly and I managed to drive home safely!

2020nymph · 11/11/2020 13:05

@Nikori

Not when I was pregnant, but when my daughter was a baby, I put her in the baby seat of the car and shut the door. I then heard a click. I had forgotten that she was holding the car keys and she had pressed the lock button. I had to call for help to get the car service to come and open the door for me. Luckily, it was a fairly cool day, so my DD was fine, but I was just so upset by the whole thing.

DH reminded me yesterday that I did that twice with DS1, both times outside his nursery. Blush

dgirluk · 11/11/2020 13:05

I haven't been pregnant but have definitely done stupid things (including driving my pride and joy car into a lamp post), but this one takes the biscuit for me and shows it's not just the women :)

My lovely new boyfriend (now my husband), we were still in the early stages of a lovely new relationship, and he was pretty much living at mine. Reversed his car onto the drive straight into my brand new very expensive car... didn't realise he'd hit it, thought he was on the kerb, so just used a bit more throttle and hit it again... he was mortified !!!!!! And of course two cars to repair, one only two years old, and the other maybe a couple of months old....

Lillygolightly · 11/11/2020 13:14

Pregnant with DD2 I was about 17 weeks and still sick as a dog. My head was all over the place as were packing and preparing to move. DH sent me out to get packing supplies and chucked me his car keys as his car was bigger, cheeky bugger also asked me to put some fuel in too. Well he soon regretted it, as to get out onto the road you had to reverse round the side of house, something I had done perfectly well for 3 years including in the big 4x4 I used to own. His company car was an automatic, mine was manual. Reversed round the side without incident, went to pull out off the driveway and there was a huge scrape. Yep....car was still in reverse, I had forgotten to put it in drive. I left the car where it was and ran back into the house to throw up. DH shouted up the stairs....did you just crash into the house???!!! Yep Blush

Later that same pregnancy, it was DD1’s first day at school. Stopped on the way to put some fuel in the car. Obviously wasn’t paying attention at the pump before I realised I was putting diesel in my Petrol car. Luckily have good car knowledge so I knew not to do anything with car but leave it there, explained to the petrol station attendant and then called my friend who had a repair shop to pick it up and drain the tank. Luckily DD1 was still on time for her first day as the petrol station was just down the road from the school. Now I am always very careful to check the pump before I fill up.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 11/11/2020 13:14

Ahhh some of these stories are stomach dropping, heart wrenching in the moment, but hilarious after.

When I was about 28 weeks pregnant our lovely pup decided he needed a wee, all over my sofa. Rather than strip it and wash it, I burst into tears and called my mum asking her the best way to wash a sofa. Totally forgetting all the cushions are zip on covers and cushions themselves are small enough for my washing machine 🤦‍♀️

I'd had the sofa almost 3 years at this point and washed everything a few times!

JMG1234 · 11/11/2020 13:26

I once saw a free space in my local car park and lined my car up with the space and started reversing into it. Except I'd reversed straight into the car in the space next to it. Not slightly, perfectly central to their space.

My husband put his laptop bag behind my car and then immediately reversed straight over it. The laptop did not survive. He also (for no good reason as we were in a huge field with loads of space to reverse out), decided to drive forwards out of the space crushing my son's friends' cricket bags full of equipment.

My nephew was sitting having his hair cut when he noticed his mum's car rolling down the hill (no handbrake on), coming to a stop as it hit the glass shop front of the barbers.

So don't feel bad, it happens to us all!
