Weird quirks

I have this very strange thing where I find myself counting. I'll be walking somewhere then all of a sudden, find myself mid count, I don't even realise I'm doing it.

I also flick my hair without realising that I'm doing it, much to my husbands annoyance.

I was just wondering if anyone else has odd little quirky things they do subconsciously ?!

Thumb twiddling. The rate of twiddle reflects my state of mind.
I didn't know I did it until it was pointed out.

I found myself inspecting my nails a lot more lately. It might be an anxiety thing.

I was in dance classes in early childhood. Stopped when I was 10 years old. I still say "5 6 7 8" in my head at appropriate points when listening to music.

Themadcatparade · 11/11/2020 11:24

I pick at everything!

StrangeAddiction · 11/11/2020 11:26

I twirl hair in my fingers a lot, either my own or dc's.
When I was at secondary school and I was sitting in the bus I had a habit of holding my breath in between lamposts Confused so when I was lined up with the lamp post I'd take a quick breath and hold it until the next one when I'd have a short breath out and straight back in.

I touch my face, fidget and bounce my leg a lot.

When one hand gets wet when I brush my teeth I have to wet the other to make it feel equal.

God I'm weird Grin

Forgot to add my thumb twiddling.

I do the counting thing too, sometimes in other languages as a sort of calming device. Also humming when concentrating.

AllHallowsEve14 · 11/11/2020 11:40

Yes! I tap each finger with my thumb and have to do the same with the other hand to make it equal. I count everything for absolutely no reason such as floor tiles, bricks etc. I am constantly wiggling my legs and feet. I must be so annoying to be around Blush

Smallsteps88 · 11/11/2020 11:44

I have a constant internal dialogue and it’s now started to become external. Mostly it’s not a problem because I work alone but sometimes I do it when clients are there or in Asda and people can hear me arguing with myself Blush

Ive also started to suck the inside of my right cheek. Not sure why.

Alittlelessthanuseless · 11/11/2020 11:46

I bite/chew my lip when I’m worried/upset.
My OH will look at me and say “what’s wrong?” I’m completely unaware that I’m doing it.

Smallsteps88 · 11/11/2020 11:47

I also answer some questions/say some phrases in another language without meaning to. At home it’s fine because my DC know what I’m saying but again, in Asda or with clients it’s awkward. It’s not even my first language but for some reason certain phrases come to me first in that language rather than English.

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 11/11/2020 11:55

Yes I often find myself counting too! Things, time etc. I’ve no idea why!

Dowser · 11/11/2020 12:11

I’m a counter
I always have to count how many people in a group

TartanDMs · 11/11/2020 12:16

smallsteps me too! I often thank someone for holding a door open for me in German, mainly because at home we have always said random phrases to each other in German, French or Spanish. Sometimes a smattering of Russian too but only very limited. I do it without thinking outside of home and have had people look at me funny!
