How many times a day do you put your dishwasher on?

Just being nosey really as I've only just brought my very first dishwasher (no idea why i waited so long!).

Do you wait until it is totally full? How many times a day do you use it? Do you use the short or long circles?

We're a family of 3 and have a slimline dishwasher. Goes on when its full - probably 5 to 6 times a week. I don't put glasses in it though or baking trays.

As someone else above said, please dont put it on and go to bed. I was also told this at fire warden training. A friend of mines dishwasher caught fire, but luckily she walked into her kitchen and noticed before it spread. Could have been a very different story if she and her family had been asleep.

feministbias · 10/11/2020 19:51

Twice at the moment as there are more people about.
After breakfast and lunch if we don't put it on there isn't enough room for dinner stuff.
5 people and a standard size dishwasher

Twobrews · 10/11/2020 19:51

Once a day, after dinner. It only goes on twice if I wash the oven and hob bits or do a cleaning cycle.

Two of us and always once a day but sometimes two if we have used lots of pans.

Mol1628 · 10/11/2020 19:55

Family of four. It was once a day after evening meal but now it’s twice as we are in the house much more. Usually goes on after lunch then again after evening meal.
I put the dogs bowl in there too! Grin

Once a day for the most part, maybe twice on a Sunday/Christmas or if I'm doing the cooker hood filters, I'll usually do the oven racks at the same time. Family of 7 (plus 1 dog & 2 cats). It goes on after dinner & I empty it the next morning while the dc are eating breakfast. I won't run it overnight.

Siw2020 · 10/11/2020 19:56

Im quite suprised at all the answers!

Also quite new to having a dishwasher (this rented flat has one, previous one did not). We're a couple and probably have it on twice a week now I feel bad telling DP he puts it on too often, I try to make it stretch a week (we both physically go to work so only 2 meals at home/day).

Also I think it goes on for hours! How do we put a 30 minute wash on, there doesnt seem to be an option - just temperature settings, would the lowest temp do it fastest? I need to test it out.

Feminist10101 · 10/11/2020 19:59

3-4 full loads a day. Family of 3.

Dddaddy · 10/11/2020 19:59

As many times as I need to.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 10/11/2020 20:01

Once a day over night pre lockdown. Now we're home more 2-3 times a day. I really need to stop baking!

Woui · 10/11/2020 20:03

..yep, cat bowls here too !

In answer to a PP. Yes to schedule (after dinner) unless we ate out.

Twice once at lunch time with all the breakfast and lunch dishes and once after our evening meal.

Check the manual or Google your dishwasher midel short cycle. We have a 45 min cycle we use most of the time.

Woui · 10/11/2020 20:05

@Siw2020 I don't have enough pots and pans to go a week.

Try googling the make and it might tell you about a shorter wash.

Once a day after evening meal. I still put it on if it's only half full so that it's empty for the next day.

Occasionally I'll do it earlier if I've baked or something during the day, as there's nothing worse than cooking dinner and having nowhere to put the pans because the dishwasher is already full.

I empty it first thing in the morning while the kettle is boiling.

Get into the habit of putting stuff in it as you go. Don't stack things on the side waiting to go into the dishwasher. When you sit down to eat dinner, make sure the only things still out are your cutlery and plates, so the clean up is basically done.

Twistered · 10/11/2020 20:08

Twice a day usually

InTheLongGrass · 10/11/2020 20:09

PleasantVille we run out of plates, cutlery and glasses if it doesnt go on after 2 meals!
Whatever doesnt fit after dinner gets washed up by hand, as we need it the following day!

schnubbins · 10/11/2020 20:10

When everyone is at home (family 4 adults now)which is now all day.At least twice a day at weekends , three times a day.

5zeds · 10/11/2020 20:13

Twice a day. We don’t put cat/dog dishes in the dishwasher (yuck!) so it goes on a short wash normally though I’ve been using the longer hotter wash a lot since Covid.

Enb76 · 10/11/2020 20:15

Once a day, almost everything goes in. Only two of us in the house but everything is cooked from absolute scratch, even do porridge on the hob. The only things that don’t go in are the expensive knives

Montsti · 10/11/2020 20:18

Once a day but we’re a family of 6😊

Etinox · 10/11/2020 20:18

Constantly. 3 adults wfh constant cooking and clearing up.

CommanderBurnham · 10/11/2020 20:20

About 10 times a week. I cook a lot and also use little containers and things for packed lunches for the 3 of us.

With people working from home, I'd expect it to increase for a lot of people.

Enjoy the extra pair of hands OP.

strawbmilk · 10/11/2020 20:22

Twice
2 adults, a toddler and a weaning baby. I'm at home with the kids and DH only has his evening meal with us. I put it on after lunch and before bed. It was broken recently and 2 days of dishes just threw me totally out of routine!
