How many times a day do you put your dishwasher on?

Just being nosey really as I've only just brought my very first dishwasher (no idea why i waited so long!).

Do you wait until it is totally full? How many times a day do you use it? Do you use the short or long circles?

I only recently got mine, I love it but no one else will stack it not sure I want them to anyway in case they do it 'wrong'

I put it on last thing in the evening before I go to bed.

xyzandabc · 10/11/2020 19:34

Family of 5. Once a day usually after dinner. Occasionally twice if baking or big dinner/guests etc. So I'd say about 8 times a week.

Zzz1234 · 10/11/2020 19:35

Twice, if we have a Sunday lunch and pudding it can be there times

Wondering at some of these comments... Are people putting cooking pots and pans in their dishwasher? We only put plates and glasses in ours and now I'm wondering if we could be putting more in there!

Cassimin · 10/11/2020 19:35

We are a family of 5 and I only use ours about 3 times a week.
Only put it on when it’s full.
Pans/trays/ pots get washed as they are used.

Zzz1234 · 10/11/2020 19:35

Three not there

Northernsoullover · 10/11/2020 19:38

Please don't put it on and go to bed. I went to a fire safety talk once and the fireman said never run any unnecessary appliances at bed time.

Most things go in there. I often do pans in the sink (v dirty ones, sauces etc go in the dishwasher) but my kids just put them all in the dishwasher. Roasting pans, food processor, plates glasses, cutlery, knives, Tupperware type stuff, plastic chopping boards etc - all in the dishwasher.
Pringwells · 10/11/2020 19:40

Once a day, everything goes in there, pots, pans, dog bowls..

mathanxiety · 10/11/2020 19:41

About every third day, which is about how long it takes to accumulate a full load. At least twice on Christmas Day. I run it in the night.

It uses hot water, so I'm not sure what the plumber (referenced upthread) meant about needing to rinse the pipes with hot water afterwards.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 10/11/2020 19:41

Usually once, when the DC are in bed. If it’s full sooner (often at the weekends cos we have pancakes for breakfast) I’ll run it then and might do a second load later. I use the 30-min cycle and everything comes out sparkly clean.

Almost everything goes in - yes definitely pots and pans etc. Until a couple of years ago I didn’t have one - I am not washing anything by hand any more unless I really have to!

Eggy stuff washed by hand because it makes the dishwasher stink - in fact this is half the reason I’ve now pretty much stopped buying eggs.

My wooden spoons have gone a bit manky from it but I still wouldn’t choose to wash them up by hand, I just live with manky wooden spoons. Grin

This thread is a bit of a revalation, I put mine on when it's full, I assumed that was normal, does everyone else do it to a schedule rather than by need?

Chasingsquirrels · 10/11/2020 19:42

....and now this thread is going to kick off!!!

Don't mention the pet bowls, mooncup, loo brushes......

Champagneforeveryone · 10/11/2020 19:42

Family of 3, 3 dogs and a cat. Dishwasher goes on once or twice a day, sometimes more if I'm on a cooking spree.

I sometimes put it on before it's full, otherwise we wake up or come home and there's not enough space for all our dirty stuff. I can't bear it sitting on the worktops.

Giganticshark · 10/11/2020 19:43

3 times

boomboom1234 · 10/11/2020 19:43

Twice

BlueCowWonders · 10/11/2020 19:44

Multiple times each day Grin
But we have 2 slimline for a family of 4/5 and there's always someone here eating or drinking
And we only have dishwasher- safe stuff

Pipandmum · 10/11/2020 19:45

I wait until it's full. There's three of us and it goes on every other day on average. I have a friend also with three and she has hers on constantly - never waits until it's full.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/11/2020 19:46

3 or 4 adults at home, 2 wfh most of the time. I'd say 5 times a week on average.

pessimistiquerealistique · 10/11/2020 19:47

Once a day, four people in the house.

lockeddownandcrazy · 10/11/2020 19:47

Always at night, and then again in the day if it is full - sometimes more than once in the day.

burglarbettybaby · 10/11/2020 19:49

I put ours on once a day at around 7pm as we dont use many dishes after that. Then I try and empty before bed as It is a job I hate so I love to get it out of the way.

SecretDancer · 10/11/2020 19:49

Once a day, family of 3. Sometimes twice on a Sunday. I put everything I can in ours, fill up through the day and put on a 70 wash after evening meal.

I love mine so much, got the first one 2 years ago and it's honestly been life changing I bloody hate washing up and seeing piles of plates all over the kitchen

PimlicoJo · 10/11/2020 19:49

Only 2 of us so only every 2 or 3 days. Never run it overnight though!

PolaDeVeboise · 10/11/2020 19:50

@Lazydaisydaydream , the rule in our house is that, if it doesn't go in the dishwasher, it goes in the bin. I refuse to waste time washing up. We put it on at night too.
