Know anything about roller skates?

I’ve been stuck for an equivalent kind of gift for my almost 5yr old, when her younger sis getting a balance bike for Xmas and she already has bike and scooter. She’s very capable on her scooter and does wee tricks and jumps. Was thinking roller skates may be the ticket but not sure where to start. Roller skates or inline ones? Any advice if you have a child that skated at this age?

I don't have a child that skates but used to work at a store that sold skate gear.
I'd stick with Quad style skates rather than inline, there's a brand called SFR who have a 'stomper' range which are adjustable so will 'grow' with your child. Other brands to look at would be Rio Roller or Rookie. Hope that helps.

Yes, mine started at 4yo.

Wristguards are non negotiable. Knee pads are a good idea.

quad style is the dominant style in Britain if indoors.
I'd think about inlines for outside - but my skates are too precious to go outside in Britain.

I honestly think better to leave it for next year when she can go to indoor events. Skating in wet winter outdoor Britain isn't a lot of fun.

Ah this is so helpful, thanks. I was definitely thinking for outdoors - so are they very slippery if the ground has been wet? I had thought she could skate to school even, as we have a safe route through a park.
