Anyone had a nose piercing in their 40s

I am thinking about having one, I now work in a role where there is no problem with having one and wondering if you perhaps had one done in your 40s or later and how you like it? Did it heal well? any tips? thanks

@zoominmoomin I'd have to disagree that studs look boring. I stock jewellery from some of the top companies in the world with a variety of attachments in titanium, gold, set with any stone you can imagine!

Not a nose piercing but I got my tongue pierced for my birthday last year and I'm 45.

squashyhat · 11/11/2020 12:41

I'm 60 at the end of the year and planning on getting it done as a birthday present to myself. I only have my ears pierced and no tattoos so it's a bit of a departure for me! I got loads of encouragement on here when I posted about it.

I had mine at 43. Had wanted one on and off since my 20s but never quite got round to it. Also I mentioned it to a friend when we were in our early 3os and she said I was a bit old to do it!

It's small and a stud (I don't like rings). It did make my eyes water when it was done, but wasn't painful afterwards and healed fast and with no problems.
I love it and just wish I'd had it done sooner. Ignore those calling it a midlife crisis Hmm

Can i ask a question @TheBodyPiercer?

I had a teeny tiny nose stud (an L-shaped thing) when i was 18 to about 26. I loved it, but work/family etc meant after about 26 i took it out. I could still get it in for years after that though, if i wanted to.

Now i am 48 and would love to wear to again, however its completely healed on the inside now, although on the outside of my nose the hole is still there. So my question is, can you have it re-pierced through the same hole as before, or is there any issue with scar tissue?

RockStarMartini · 11/11/2020 13:08

I had mine done at 45 and I adore it, it makes me feel more me and like a PP people think I’ve had it forever.

Tip - if you knock it while it’s healing you may get a bump, there’s a name for these that sounds a bit like granola 🤔 Camomile teabags are a surprisingly effective way to heal them.

Hi, so firstly theres a chance a piercer may be able to taper open the piercing for you.

If that's not possible then it could be pierced in the same location but this does depend on how its healed and is something that could only be figured out by seeing you in person.

One other thing to consider though is that a lot of reputable piercers aren't offering under the mask services at the moment, although some are. This is obviously because of the risk to themselves but also because mask wearing may cause healing issues.

ZoominMoomin · 11/11/2020 14:39

@TheBodyPiercer Oh totally, I didn't mean to say they were. Have you checked out Anatometal's pieces? Absolutely to die for! It's what we stock. All the little ends are so intricate and pretty.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/11/2020 14:42

I had one when I was 45. It didn't hurt and healed quickly. I wore a stud for about 5 years then took it out and the hole healed over. You can't see it now.

I had my nose pierced when I was 16, and decided to let it close over when I was in my late 20’s. I decided to get it done again a couple of years ago (I’m now 41) and was thrilled to discover it hadn’t fully closed and the girl who did it was able to push it open again just with a needle. I have an Opal stud in it and I love it. So glad I had it done again. My step mum is in her 70’s and has her nose pierced (no idea how old she was when she it got it done) and it still really suits her! She’s a yoga teacher too Grin

Coniferhedge · 11/11/2020 14:52

I had my nose pierced at 46. I’m 48 now and want my septum piercing and also one of my nipples. Just the one nipple though. It will be my party tit. Grin

Mid 30s and just had my belly button re piercied, before this lockdown. Nobody will see except dp and I, so honestly done for myself. Also had my nose re-done a couple of years ago, and my septum! Youre never too old. Your body, your rules, your life.

I took all my piercings out mid 20s thinking I needed to grow up... regret it now and having them all re-done and then some. Its part of who I was, and who I am.

Go for it. Worst that can happen is you dont like it and take it out, prehaps minimal scarring which your run risk of anyway.

As PP have said DO NOT get a ring, ring are for very healed piercings only. I dont need to elaborate on this as you had a qualified, sensible answer already.

Let us know if you go for it op!

thebiggestmoose · 11/11/2020 14:58

I'd also like to get one ( only 47!) but I keep wondering....what happens when you have a cold? Just thinking it might be a bit messy!

I've got my septum pierced twice, and both nostrils pierced, I manage just fine.

Blowing your nose may be uncomfortable initially but once healed you wont notice it.

JustAnotherDiamant · 11/11/2020 17:23

42 here - have had a nose piercing since my twenties and last year I got my septum pierced. I think they look great - and who cares if people have bad opinions about it! Needle is the way to go and someone with great reviews and lots of experience.

Get them done!! You won't regret it

I had my septum pierced two years ago at 31. Also have my lip pierced both sides and many in my ears. I'm tempted to get one nipple done too but I've been told it rubs annoyingly on your bra which is putting me off!

Coniferhedge · 11/11/2020 18:43

@toiletpaper I’ve done a lot of research and from what I can tell with nipple piercings, so long as you steer clear of lacy bras while it’s healing, everything should be okay.

SoxN · 14/11/2020 06:06

I have nipple piercing, and can confirm after healing phase I actually forget i have it!
Get the piercings, worse thing that can happen, you hate it, remove it and let it heal!
Life is too short..

FuzzyPenguin · 14/11/2020 06:13

I was late 30’s when I had mine, it healed quickly much faster than my ears ever did. After a couple of days I couldn’t tell it was new. I love it, it’s like the thing which was missing off my face and I never knew. I have nothing but complements about it, no comments about midlife crisis and I know a few women in their late 40’s/50’s who have them and they look amazing.

Doordine · 14/11/2020 06:15

I'm 37 and considering it too. I just think it looks really nice.
