Spots on 6-year old's face

Ds3 is 6 (7 in February). Over the last few days he has had 3 large whiteheads on his face, each one appearing as the last disappeared.

He has always been more prone to spots/skin conditions etc than the other Dses, but this is more than he usually has.

Any ideas what it could be & what I should do? He has a good balanced diet, although I suppose there have been more sweet treats lately (still not sweets/chocolate every day but more than before, say 2-3 times per week). He hasn't seemed unwell either & we get plenty of fresh air every day.

Has he been wearing a mask quite a lot? It could be irritating his skin a little and causing a breakout.

Are you sure it's not impetigo? When my DD had that, I thought it was just a few spots or bites. It was the school that told me.

Thank you for answering. He has been wearing a mask a little bit, but not a lot. The last time was on Wednesday, so epukd it take that long for spots to come out?

I've googled impetigo & the spots don't look like that, they are more like the image attached (from Google). But I won't rule anything out just yet!

How much water does he drink? My sister used to get a lot of spots like these when she didn’t drink enough

confusedofengland · 09/11/2020 13:37

That's a good thing to consider, thanks @GrumpyHoonMain. He's not drinking as much now that the weather is cooler, so it wouldn't hurt to up his fluid intake.

Another spot has appeared during the day at school. I have taken photos of it as it seems a bit odd to me & I have a niggle that it could be something.

Could it be molluscum? Viral, very contagious, takes quite a while for their immune systems to deal with it

minipie · 09/11/2020 16:05

Watching as DD age 8 has the same thing. Although hers are mainly around her nose. Drinks loads of water. Doubt it’s molluscum as surely DD2 would have caught it.

confusedofengland · 09/11/2020 16:09

What is the best course of action? Plenty of vitamins & liquids? Some kind of cream? Keep him off school? I'm rather thrown by this.

I hope your DD is OK minipie

I’d give him chewable vitamin c in case he’s a bit run down. It’s a time of year for germs, coughs and colds and those trapped under moist masks are making some kids get spots in the school I work in. Lots of emphasis upon clean hands and regularly washing his face as soon as he gets home may help too.

confusedofengland · 09/11/2020 16:19

I haven't got chewable vitamins but will get some in. For now, I have given him a smoothie (banana, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry & BlackBerry, with apple juice) for a liquid & vitamin boost. Will also wash his face once he's had that. Thanks for the advice.
