Spotting mid period- is it common?

Last night I went to the toilet (number 2! And TMI but it required a bit more straining that normal) and when I wiped i noticed some blood on the tissue. When I checked it was definitely coming from my vagina. It was a smallish amount and mixed with CM. I am on about day 12/13 of my cycle and think in am probably ovulating. I am 39 and not TTC and have not had sex for a couple of days (so couldn't put it down to that I wouldnt day). Is this something I immediately need to rush to the doctors for or is it likely just one of those things and I should wait and watch? Is ovulation spotting a thing?

Is this something I immediately need to rush to the doctors no. It could be the beginning of your period or ovulation spotting. I wouldn't worry about it

Have others had this?

I had this for six months this year. It was cervical ectropian. I had it removed and have had no bleeding since. Definitely book a GP appointment.

Thanks @SamsMumsCateracts I have had a cervical ectropion in the past so maybe one of those. I had a smear test a couple of months ago and nothing was mentioned about one then though.

My sister went to the Gp about recurring nosebleeds. GP not bothered but asked about any other unexplained bleeding. She’d had one lot of mid cycle spotting. Ended up having surgery to remove ovarian cyst. Stopped from keyhole to full open surgery mid-op as too big to remove via keyhole.

So, yes, worth checking out.
