By decently strong, I mean the pole across that you hang stuff from. Any recs?

I got one from a charity shop. It was one of two. One had a dodgy not quite fitting pole. I did not choose that one but it seems that is what I got! Don't mind spending a bit as I have a little money now.

I don't have any recommendations for you (hopefully someone will come along with some soon) but when I was buying mime over 20 years ago, hardly any were sold ready built and those that were, were smaller and flimsier, or second-hand as you mentioned.
It is really, REALLY hard to get a full size wardrobe up stairs and round through a door into a bedroom so most are sold in sections at least, or flatpack. However, the bedroom furniture I bought included someone to build it in situ at a very small additional cost. So you might want to look out for that option.
They also said they would deconstruct it hre and reconstruct it at my new house for free if I ever moved locally, which would have been amazing service, but very sadly, the shop closed last weekend. Not able to keep going with lockdowns. It was a great local shop selling really solid oak, beech, pine etc furniture.
