I've bought myself a deep fill sandwich toaster, what is the ultimate toasted sandwich / omelette / other sandwich toastable food!?

The Borough-market grilled cheese sandwich is the ultimate - can you make it in a sandwich toaster? I don’t know - but there is nothing better!

Don’t know how authentic this recipe is - we mess about with the cheese and onion varieties but it does not need diversions.

Brie, bacon and cranberry.
Cheese, onion and Mattesons smoked sausage.

Apple. If you can be bothered, cook and purée some real apple yourself with a bit of sugar. If you can’t, buy tinned ‘pie filling’ apple. White bread. Dust liberally with icing sugar when cooked. Heaven.

It's even better on sliced brioche...

Well this thread is making my mouth water!

Ultimate toastie has to be Brie, bacon and cranberry
Or chicken, mozzarella and pesto
Or tomato purée, cheddar and onion (pizza toastie)

Jesus, who am I kidding. If it’s toasted I’m probably going to eat it Grin

CordylineKiwi · 08/11/2020 01:09

Worcester sauce is nice on cheese

legalseagull · 08/11/2020 07:22

@RedPandaFluff

Would marshmallows and Nutella work, I'm wondering . . .
Honestly - it even makes the bread all sweet, like a doughnut
Whatatoodoodle · 08/11/2020 07:35

Cheese and ham with mustard mayonnaise on the side
Left over bolognese

fussychica · 08/11/2020 09:08

Left over Bolognese, a real treat.

@fussychica

Left over Bolognese, a real treat.
Ooh!
alltoowell · 08/11/2020 09:22

I keep it fairly simple.
Cheese and beans was a childhood favourite but as perilous as a McDonalds molten apple pie. 😄
Cheese and tomato
Cheese and onion
Mexicana cheese and chorizo

Basically cheese with anything.
I'm definitely going to try a bolognese one with mozzarella.
Also, leftover chilli sounds good.
My toastie maker is broken but I'm going to try and sneak a replacement in and pretend I've fixed it. 👍

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/11/2020 09:24

It's just a molten hot pocket of cheese and other assorted shite

Why are you saying that as if a molten pocket of cheese could be anything but delicious?

vampirethriller · 08/11/2020 09:24

My favourite is leftover Christmas dinner in a toastie. A little bit of everything with cranberry sauce.

SagelyNodding · 08/11/2020 09:34

For 'dessert' Nutella and banana/strawberry is amazing!
Considering Biscoff and cream cheese as an experiment...

ContadoraExplorer · 08/11/2020 09:40

Sausage meat and onion stuffing, strong cheddar and pickled onion. Only have them at Christmas as we never make the stuffing any other time but they are so good!

alltoowell · 08/11/2020 09:45

Would people go for the traditional deep fill breville or the flat plate toaster/panini press?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 08/11/2020 09:58

Cheddar, with finely sliced red onion, celery and really really thinly sliced pear.

I like cheese and pepperoni or Philadelphia and bacon 😍

notapizzaeater · 08/11/2020 11:17

Cheese ham and ketchup is our favourite.

For sweet - jam or prunes served with ice cream - guess what we are having fir dinner ......

notapizzaeater · 08/11/2020 11:22

@Popcornismandatory - I've used a George before when my toaster was broken - put an upturned plate under its front feet - makes it level - I always cooked mine in baking paper to catch all the yummy melted cheese

Blueuggboots · 08/11/2020 13:07

I've never tried these but thing I should....
Goats cheese and blueberry jam.
Feta cheese, honey and sesame seeds....or use a sesame seed bun or bagel....??!

WitchesSpelleas · 08/11/2020 13:10

Wensleydale cheese and apple sauce.

Coldwinterahead1 · 08/11/2020 13:13

Leftover bolognese sauce and loads of cheese

TartanDMs · 08/11/2020 13:18

Marmite and cheese
Smoked salmon and cream cheese
Mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, pesto
Roast chicken or turkey, stuffing and cranberry

ODFOx · 08/11/2020 13:32

Roasted peppers out of a jar with cheese and a smear of pesto if you are feeling grown up, but if you aren't......
Dip a jam sandwich made with extra thick white warburtons into beaten egg so both sides have absorbed egg. Brush both sides of the toaster with melted butter. Cook until golden then toss the whole thing in caster sugar mixed with cinnamon. Let it cool a bit before eating it or the jam will melt through the roof of your mouth.
