What do your year 7's do after school and how much time do you spend together in the evening?

DS is 12 and in year 7. He's an only child so I've always been conscious of not wanting to be over bearing with him. Now that he's in secondary school i'm even more aware of his need for his own space.

We've got into a routine after school where he'll sit in the kitchen with me, have a drink and a snack and a quick catch up on his day for about 10 minutes. He then goes upstairs where he watches TV, YouTube , xbox, does his homework etc.

I do tea , sit with the dog and watch a bit of TV or listen to the radio. DH is home at 6 so we all eat together then I usually go for a bath while DH washes the pots and DS then stays down with us until about 7.30 when he goes up to bed (very early I know but he likes to read for a bit and he gets up very early in the morning so it suits him)

Does that sound about right for this age? I dont want to force him to stay downstairs with me after school and of he had siblings I'm sure I'd be preoccupied with them. What do you do?

Mine spent a lot less time with me than that, I think you're doing well.
