Long-term furlough

Just curious really - has anyone been furloughed from last March and been told it's continuing till next March? Or are the new furloughees (is that a word) different from the old ones?

I've been park on reduced hours flexible furlough since August and been told today it will likely continue until March. Despite what seems to be the common criticism of the scheme my job is absolutely viable long term. As soon as restrictions lift we are expecting a huge surge in business due to pent up demand.

I was furloughed from march, then back working on flexible furlough when that came in, maybe working around 40% of my normal hours. Now looks like full time furlough again, until restrictions relating to forced closures of hospitality are lifted.

Job is absolutely viable long term, but needs hospitality open.

I was furloughed from March until this week but I’ve been told I’m only doing a bit of cover for someone who has to isolate. I’m very likely going back on furlough in a few weeks.

I think I’ll be furloughed until March. The company needs us, they’re drowning with work. They just like not having to lay their employees for a bit.

Osirus · 20/11/2020 22:50

*pay, not lay!!

RaininSummer · 20/11/2020 22:55

Yes pretty much. Work has really dried up at present. After Covid stops affecting everything, should have the footfall again.

Our company put a thousand on furlough & have ended up not keeping anyone on the scheme past October as profits were so good & they have ended up paying back the money too.

The people on furlough aren’t happy because they are wanting to go back on furlough, rather than muck in & help out. I personally think the second furlough should have been limited to particular industries.

God I wish! Dh and I both worked all the way through, totally burnt out now. Can't take any annual leave as there is simply no availability. If there's another national lockdown put me first in the queue for furlough

That’s appalling and a complete misuse of the scheme 😡

Dh is not furloughed but had his pay cut which will continue for at least several more months. Most of his company have been furloughed since the start of the scheme, some came off it for July - Oct while they opened for a while (at a loss) and are now back on furlough likely until Feb/Mar.

I’m flexi til March - usually work about 20 - 28 hours a week and then furlough for the rest! Depending how much work is coming my way!

Some weeks I work a full 35 hours

I am furloughed from my 1st part time job since march ongoing. Now i am furloughed from my 2nd part time job.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 20/11/2020 23:30

DH is on his second stint of furlough for this lockdown & there are murmurs now that he will be on it till March. !!

The environment I work in has had staff on furlough from March, and as far as I can see they won't be back till March. A whole year of being paid-100% as we have topped up from the 80% for being told to stay at home
I am actually jealous. If our company survives they will walk back into the roles they left. Some of us have slightly different roles and are at high risk of redundancy -even tho we have carried the place since March!!
