Don't let them go on the internet without supervision, regularly check their phones/Instagram accounts etc and put the phone to bed downstairs every night, do not let it eat away at sleep time.

Enable parental phone restrictions.

what age are you talking about? Pre Secondary age there's no need for a phone so all access can be through the home wifi with lot of blocks, filters, controls etc. Once they have a phone there are various family link type accounts you can put on - personally I go down the route of transparency. My DS knows I can and will look at his phone whenever I like, see his search history etc. He hasn't really started with social media yet and only has his phone for the bus journey home from school but that's how I will continue if / when he asks for additional apps etc

Keep yourself up to date with the current apps and online trends, so many parents are clueless.
