I've suffered from hives/urticaria for the past 23 years, and been unable to exercise/walk/get my HR up/wear a coat(!) for the past few years they've been so bad
Today I got approved for a medication which has a great success rate but is expensive to the NHS, hard to get and not commonly used
I am so so happy GrinGrinGrin

As a chronic idiopathic urticaria sufferer- I've done an internal jump for joy on your behalf! The itch is a bitch- I used to scratch so much, my skin bled. Luckily, fexofenidine worked for me. Please keep us updated.

@QueenPaws

Oh my, Queen...I've just now seen your before and after photos...
I am so thrilled that you've gotten such a good result.
The bad hives must have been so terribly uncomfortable ....what a miracle!
And yes, you do have gorgeous lips! LOL!

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 10:02

All done, did my own injections today. Now just to sit and hang out for a while

That's fab!! Are you home now?
QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 13:30

Yep, only had to wait an hour this time so much quicker

billy1966 · 12/01/2021 13:43

How fabulous OP.

I get hives like that sometimes in the summer - one year it was on the top of my feet, the next year in the crook of my elbow - never in the same place twice. It is horrible, just in that slight patch, so I can only imagine how debilitating it must be to suffer as you have.

It sounds quite a major drug to have to be injected as it does, but I'm so pleased you're able to inject yourself (you're so much braver than me - not sure I could do it!) and that it's working for you.

Welcome to your new life OP!

@QueenPaws
Such wonderful news!
Did you change your screen name to queen paw paws because of NMC?Grin

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 17:53

@Sweetpea1532 yes Grin he's known as paw paws/poor paws (when ollie smacks him) or stinky

Sweetpea1532 · 12/01/2021 20:37

@QueenPaws
How are you feeling tonight after your shot this morning?

I loved when you posted about how you were even given breakfast and included a photo of your toast and a hot beverage. Seems you can turn any situation into an adventure. No wonder NMC wants to stay at yours.And that book you're reading looks quite steamy😂😂😂😂.
BTW, I've enjoyed your videos with Ollie!

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 20:41

Definitely not steamy but entertaining Grin
Not too bad, achy and a headache but it's manageable
Sadly missed breakfast today Sad nobody ever cooks for me so I will happily eat anything someone else makes!

Sweetpea1532 · 12/01/2021 20:54

@QueenPaws
I'm sorry for your headache and aches and pains...are these side effects?
If you don't mind me asking...Since your hives are caused by stress (isn't that what you first posted? I have a bad memory), how does the medication actually work?? Does it helps with stress or does it turns off your body's reaction to stress...and that very interesting that heat brings it on

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 21:10

Side effects yes
Apparently it blocks or binds IgE
IgE attaches to mast cells and makes them produce histamine, the Xolair binds the IgE before it attaches so no histamine = no hives

Sweetpea1532 · 13/01/2021 06:42

Thanks for the explanation..that histamine can cause terrible itching!

Oblomov20 · 13/01/2021 06:50

Very pleased for you.
Shame that they didn't allow you to have it sooner.

peak2021 · 13/01/2021 07:16

Of course happy to read of the new treatment working and hope later this year and beyond you can enjoy the things you will be able to do for the first time in many years.

QueenPawPaws · 13/01/2021 08:46

@Oblomov20 my local area doesn't do it at all Sad so I ended up finding a convoluted way to get referred to the area I knew that did do it Blush
Had everything crossed I would be referred to the guy who is the urticaria specialist (I saw him 12 years ago) and I was
So everything worked out!

QueenPawPaws · 29/01/2021 22:29

6 weeks after starting (2 doses so far)
This is post hot bath again

@QueenPaws

Oh, what a miracle!
I am so thrilled you have finally found relief...it amazes me that you've been able to keep a cheerful heart and positive outlook on life after 23 years of suffering....
I know Ollie and NMC are thrilled their mum is feeling better!

Sweetpea1532 · 15/02/2021 18:23

@QueenPawPaws
Are you also QueenPawPaws?

How are you doing with your condition? Hope all is wellFlowers

QueenPaw · 15/02/2021 20:54

Still going ok, had a few flares but I'm due another injection Grin

Sweetpea1532 · 17/02/2021 04:25

@QueenPaws
That's good to hear! Will you get some more lovely toast?

custardbear · 17/02/2021 05:05

Wow that's amazing! I get cold urticaria, it was bad when I was pregnant g DH or the second time, I had a can of Coke in my arm as I walked back from the work shop, it looked like I'd burned my whole arm! Flares up occasionally (that first incident was one of many that started10 years ago) but I think it's hormonal as really calmed down a while after child was born
Goid luck and hope it keeps getting better!

QueenPaw · 17/02/2021 08:06

Sadly no toast as I have to inject at home now!

Sweetpea1532 · 18/02/2021 00:18

@QueenPaws
You'll have to teach Ollie how to pop you in some toast...I bet he could do it!
