Probate application - 21 weeks and counting

Has anyone else applied for probate recently. We applied for my grandfather at the start of June and we keep calling and they keep saying they haven't processed it yet and they don't know how long it will take.

We got an email from hmrc six weeks ago saying they've issued their form and there's no tax due and were told it would be three working days and still nothing has happened.

Anyone got any advice how to get them moving. We sre trying to sell his property and already lost one sale and don't want to lose the second. We just think 21 weeks is a bit mad for a probate with no tax to pay

I applied in March with no tax to pay, and only got the letters of administration last week. I had to chase them several times, using their contact number - I don’t have the direct number to hand, but if you call this number 0300 123 1072, it should tell you another number for applications that are already in progress.

They told me there was a ‘glitch’ in their system and I needed to submit a new statement of truth. It still took another 2 months after resubmitting...

I work for an estates lawyers and it seems that there is huge back log in probate cases we are now looking at 4-6 month for cases to get probate .

Same here. Was told in June it would be 18-24 months potentially because of Covid.

We applied for my FIL in June and was granted in September. We were told a similar timeframe as TheSeeds so was surprised that it had been granted so quickly.

My Gran's was applied for at the start of March and it came through in August. She had a will but it had no excutor on it so don't know if that made it 'quicker for us.
