Fireworks moaning

Hugosmugo · 05/11/2020 21:12

All I've seen on my local Facebook groups for the last week is people moaning about fireworks (they don't bother me, but I say fair enough if others don't like them and I get animals hate them)

But seriously. I've seen people moaning tonight. On bonfire night. Really?!

It's selfish and anti-social to let off fireworks. Of course people are going to complain about it on a day when it's been going on for hours after weeks of it.

Runkle · 05/11/2020 21:15

My dog has been shaking uncontrollably for 4 hours (and that's after having diazepam as a last resort treatment) and it's not only tonight we've had them so yeah.. moaning is acceptable. I'm fucking sick of it.

DustyLoafer · 05/11/2020 21:15

We've had them solidly for the last 4 hours, pissed off with them now.

Hugosmugo · 05/11/2020 21:22

I sympathise but what do people expect on fireworks night?

Boo hoo hoo, dogs are allowed to shit everywhere and bark every night but I cannot set off fireworks one night per year!
Hugosmugo · 05/11/2020 21:24

And like I said in my op, moaning about them on other days is fine, but I saw people moaning about them earlier this evening and didn't really know what it would achieve with it being bonfire night!

If I had my way I'd bloody ban them, selfish bastards. Try calming a stressed animal then you might understand.

SimonJT · 05/11/2020 21:24

We’ve had them solidly since 1:30pm, we have also had them going off every night for almost two weeks. Last night someone was setting them off from 3:30am until just after 4am.

Fireworks are both dangerous and antisocial.

Runkle · 05/11/2020 21:25

Plannersareus - Get a grip. Are you 5? So you think they're some kind of revenge or antidote? FML.

ZoominMoomin · 05/11/2020 21:26

@Plannersareus Jokes on you - my dog is mute and I pick up after her. Have fun firing money up into the air and causing distress to animals, the elderly, children and war vets though.

@Plannersareus you sound like a psychopath.

Kittykat93 · 05/11/2020 21:46

I'm sick of them. Nearly 10pm and still going and we are in an estate with lots of families with small children. I'm trying to go to bed myself now but it's too loud!

Winterterrace · 05/11/2020 21:52

There’s no need to have incredibly loud fireworks that sound like a car bomb going off.

nancybotwinbloom · 05/11/2020 21:53

There are two sides to this.

Yes people will set them off and be inconsiderate.

I think shops sell them far too early. They should be available a day or so before.

We've had it all day today. It's still going on now.

However it's a family activity and unless it becomes illegal people won't not do it.

I say this as having pets and having a few fireworks tonight.

grafittiartist · 05/11/2020 22:11

I love fireworks. This is one of my favourite nights of the year.

DenimDrift · 05/11/2020 22:13

there are people here who have partners with combat PTSD

fireworks still ok??

sqirrelfriends · 05/11/2020 22:15

I kind of get the moaning, fireworks were the bane of my life from October- January because they would always wake up DS.

But honestly it's mostly the organised displays that annoy me most, they go on for ages, are much louder and are so late. The wedding venue 100m away has them every couple of weeks and they never finish before 11 (as required by law) it drives me insane.

sqirrelfriends · 05/11/2020 22:15

That being said, I did have a small display for DS this afternoon but it was early and we chose quiet fireworks.

Smellbellina · 05/11/2020 22:16

fireworks still ok??

Well, yes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tootsietoot · 05/11/2020 22:18

It's fucking annoying but I do wish people would spend a lot more time and energy in desensitizing their dogs for the months coming up to bonfire night. it's not very difficult but just requires lots of patience and doing it lots and lots. Firework noises on YouTube, lots of treats and many repeated times of doing ir. Little and often starting quietly getting noiser. It's not like it's going away

Tootsietoot · 05/11/2020 22:19

I say this with 2 dogs next to me. One a very nervous collie that we have trained

TigerBrite · 05/11/2020 22:20

They’re too dangerous and anti social, and should be restricted to licensed professional displays only. Then people could still attend fireworks but the anti social aspect would be removed.

Ginnymweasley · 05/11/2020 22:24

I kind of get where you are coming from to a point. I haven't heard any fireworks since about half past 8 but in the last hour there have been numerous posts on local fb page about how fireworks are scaring/ killing animals. One person put on that there were setting some off at 7pm so that their neighbours knew and is still getting abuse 5 hours later.
If people don't like them then they can petition etc but yelling at people on fb isnt going to make people stop doing it esp on bonfire night.
My cats couldn't care less, nothing disturbs their important sleep time (23 hrs of the day)

sicknote26 · 05/11/2020 22:26

I've always loved fireworks but my new dog is in a terrible state, never realised how scared dogs where of them until now. They have been going off by mine since 4.30pm and I am still hearing the odd one now at 10.25pm. They are doing my head in
