Do cameras tend to go on offer for Black Friday?

Assuming that Black Friday offers will still be on this year (albeit online), does anyone more knowledgable than me know if cameras are often discounted?

Looking to buy DH a beginner DSLR camera, seen a nice Canon one for £300ish with good reviews, but wondering if it's worth me holding off buying it for a few weeks?

Any help is much appreciated Smile

Or cyber Monday for tech isn’t it? Quite a few places are doing offers through November (I guess sales aren’t as high as usual).

In my experience the Canon cameras rarely get discounted anywhere - if you can get a Canon DSLR with a couple of lenses for £300 then grab it!

@Blobby10 this is what I've found - worth just snapping it up?! (Sorry I don't know how to do clicky links)

I would find that lens a bit restrictive tbh and only great for portrait stuff - I find the 35-70mm more versatile with a 75-300 for taking pics of kids doing sports.

One word of caution for buying online rather than through a camera shop (even though they are few and far between these days) is you don’t get any ‘how to use’ support- when i got my DD a canon deal online last year it took us forever to work out how to get the pics off! If I’d bought it from a shop I would have gone back for advice 😁

@Blobby10 ok some great advice there! I'm a complete novice, as is DH Grin so only really have had Google as my friend.

I've had a look online but can't find any camera shops in my area, there's Curry's but I'm aware their staff may not have great knowledge either.

Is there a different purchase you could recommend for me? That I can do some research into.

Sorry for bugging you with it Grin

*@PrincessConsuelaBH * no problem at all! I'm not a professional or anything but can only offer my experiences as a Canon user and also when buying my DD a Canon last year! Don't get me wrong, the Canon is an excellent camera and not just for starting out. But if you can find a deal that includes the 35-70mm lens I think your DH would get more use from it. It gives more scope for 'snapshot' photography rather than the 18-55mm lens which is fantastic for close up or portrait stuff - I got frustrated with my 18-55 when trying to take pics of the children playing as had to get too close to them playing!

If you can find a Jessops they are great shops but few and far between these days. But second hand lenses are often sold separately to the camera body - might be worth checking this out?. My brother had a Canon too and spent a long time using a basic photography book plus Canon's own usage manual to work out what all the buttons do - he takes amazing photos!

@Blobby10 thanks for taking the time to reply Smile

Our nearest Jessops is over an house away unfortunately, and have asked around and no-one knows of anywhere closer to me.

Have had a look only but no joy in finding a starter bundle with a 35-70mm lens. Did find a used one on eBay - would any canon 35-70mm lens fit any canon camera? I hope that makes sense? There's so many numbers on every description 🤯

I think I was naive in thinking I could just buy an easy starter bundle...

*@PrincessConsuelaBH * the beauty of the Canon range is that all the lenses fit all the bodies so yes it should! I did hear that they fit the Nikon range too but have never tested that one out.

Maybe you could get the starter kit you've found and then your DH will have the option to get the different lens if he likes it? Its only my personal preference to use the other lens - there must be a demand for the shorter one or Canon wouldn't sell it. The other option would be to keep looking for a week or two Grin
