What happens if Biden is unwell?

I feel very sorry for Biden and no idea why the Democrats couldn't find someone more suitable. He called Trump 'George', mistook his granddaughter for his sadly deceased son and seemed very forgetful when Obama introduced him.

I'm not sure his health is up to being president, some people suggest possible alzheimers. What happens if he has to stand down in a few weeks for health reasons? Another election?

Poor man Sad

@TheDaydreamBelievers absolutely. She was ridiculously well qualified. She had compromised on her own career so many times to support Bill getting to the White House but still managed to become a senator in her own right and the Democratic presidential nominee. So many people just can’t stand an educated woman or one who dared to have a career outside of being First Lady.
@AgentCooper I found it so depressing that a shouty, (failed) businessman, with no political experience and zero of his own values was voted in over Hilary, an extremely qualified candidate and accomplished person.
I'm not surprised. She was definitely not the right candidate to go against Trump.
Perhaps irrelevant for younger voters, but surely older ones will remember the victim blaming language she used against all the women who accused her husband of rape and sexual assault.

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 18:44

If they'd wanted to win in 2016 they should've picked someone fresh - with no negative links to the past.

Except technically she got more votes than him, didn't she?

umberellaonesie · 05/11/2020 19:38

They wouldn't elect a woman so this is the oy way for her to get the job.
I said last election when everyone was saying there was no way they would elect Trump. They would rather have Trump than a woman and especially that woman ( Hilary Clinton). American politics is its own kind of crazy.

midnightstar66 · 05/11/2020 19:41

Well I'm not sure trump is one bit well or sane either and he's managed this long....

tenredthings · 05/11/2020 19:53

Let's hope Kamala takes the lead soon !

So they voted for Trump because he's so respectful of women? Hmm

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 20:16

I don't know @CaptainMyCaptain
Perhaps they felt less betrayed? (He never claimed to be standing for women). It might be irrational but it can sometimes feel worse when the anti woman sentiment is coming from one of the 'sisterhood'. Definitely something put them off or else they'd have voted for her.
The Democrats could've, of course, picked a less tainted candidate.

NoToMisogyny · 05/11/2020 21:39

Whatever your views on Trump - he has a charisma and energy that makes Biden look especially doddery. I saw some clips from his rallies and he was full of gusto. Biden looks every inch of his age. Which is completely fair enough, but how the hell is he going to have the energy to fly round the world (when that resumes!) and work the long days and nights requires? I just can’t see it.

If it wasn’t for her full-scale embracing of gender ideology/ woke ‘identity politics’ I would think Kamala was an amazing presidential prospect, even if her u-turn on Biden (didn’t she accuse him of both sexual assault and racism?) and previous policies does smack of complete opportunism. Many would probably do the same if they were offered a VP position!

I just wish she would be a friend rather than a foe to women. She is with Biden in planning to legislate women out of existence on day one. Same with AOC - they could have done such amazing things for women’s rights. Now they fight for us to be called ‘menstruators’ or ‘people with cervixes’

bumblingbovine49 · 05/11/2020 22:48

"I feel so sorry for him sad he seems confused so often*

Yes because compared to Trump whose command of the English language is so precise, lucid and coherent ...oh wait....

I don’t know. I don’t think the sex of the candidate would have swung staunch republican voters over to the democrats. I think it might even have made many less likely to change their allegiance. Hillary Clinton got a lot of flack when she was First Lady for saying things like she wasn’t going to just stand around and smile or bake cookies. She never toned down her personality to fit and her approval ratings were very poor. She had her own office in the West Wing (as opposed to the token wee office they give First Ladies in the East Wing). I can’t imagine how demeaning it must have been for a lawyer with a doctorate, professorship and tonnes of publications to be judged on how nice a First Lady she seemed. But she was clearly gritting her teeth and playing the long game.

Prior to the revelations about her husband she had a long, long record of using her legal training to help vulnerable women and children.

safariboot · 05/11/2020 23:20

He makes gaffes sometimes. So did Bush Jr. For all I disagreed with Bush's policies, he was ten times the President Trump is.

Portraying Biden as senile was and is a strategy of the Trump campaign, and I don't for one minute believe it.

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 23:23

How about Kim Kardashian runs in 2024 instead of her husband? (Perhaps Kanye could be her VP).

mumwon · 05/11/2020 23:38

I think Bidden sound articulate & intelligent - as for mistakes - goodness this last few weeks would tire anybody - compare him & his speech to Trump - most of HIS speeches (??) utterances are disconnected streams of illogic nonsense.
Trump physical health is suspect - he went for a medical test/appointment earlier in the year the reason why has never been answered. &as for his doctors comments - I mean really?
One thing I remember seeing is Biden running on to the stage -
I think he is sincere & intelligent & if you compare his prospective vice president to Pence...

clearedfortakeoff · 05/11/2020 23:40

@ArcheryAnnie

Biden has had a stammer his whole life, which, if you are ignorant about how that can manifest, you could confuse with being forgetful, because speech may not always go smoothly.

I'd rather have a president who has largely overcome a stammer than one who is a lazy, megalomaniac, narcissist liar.

Well said
