What happens if Biden is unwell?

PurplePIG1 · 04/11/2020 23:32

I feel very sorry for Biden and no idea why the Democrats couldn't find someone more suitable. He called Trump 'George', mistook his granddaughter for his sadly deceased son and seemed very forgetful when Obama introduced him.

I'm not sure his health is up to being president, some people suggest possible alzheimers. What happens if he has to stand down in a few weeks for health reasons? Another election?

Poor man Sad

There is a precedent for this which shows what happens.

When John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 Lyndon B. Johnson (then Vice President) was sworn in as President very quickly. During the flight back to Washington, I think

I think Biden is pretty sharp. Trump isn't that much younger and is an inarticulate arse.

gumball37 · 05/11/2020 03:32

@Winterterrace

’I wonder why they didn’t chose her in the first place?’

Because if they had Trump would have won.

Yep. The US has too many racists and sexists... A black woman wouldn't win here. Pathetic, but yes, this is what we're freaking with.
GypsyRoseGarden · 05/11/2020 03:37

He’s not unwell - there are trolls that put out stupid propaganda - he’s a sharp as can be and a very good person - and a stammer doesn’t make him unfit - same trolls said Hillary was unwell ... ho hum

NeonGenesis · 05/11/2020 04:09

I'm afraid that I can't link to it because I can't remember where I read it, but I've seen opinion poll stats that say America wouldn't vote in a female president. Not sure how much I believe it given that Clinton got so many votes, but maybe that's what they were concerned about so they decided to sneak her in behind an old white man.

ilovebagpuss · 05/11/2020 07:37

Not to worry if JB becomes unwell at least the doctors of America will care for him knowing that he didn’t say they were all making money from Covid deaths.
Same things happen if President Trump falls down some steps or can’t get water to his mouth so becomes severely dehydrated the VP takes over.
Funny passive aggressive swipe at a similarly aged person obviously politically motivated.
It’s not like President Trump is the picture of health.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2020 09:17

If Joe Biden is indeed ill and the intention is that Kamala Harris is going to be president when she takes over after a few months while JB 'steps aside due to his health' that's very clever of the democrats and at the same time saddening that enough people would vote for Donald Trump over a female president.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/11/2020 09:25

Trump is also very elderly and his cognitive and physical health has also been in question more than once.

Like others, I would be happy to see President Harris but there is no way the american voters would have put a black woman in the White House (which is super depressing)

Noitjustwontdo · 05/11/2020 09:52

Mixing a couple of names up doesn’t mean he has Alzheimer’s. I mix my DC up all of the time, sometimes end up running through all of their names before I reach the correct one. I’m in my thirties.

EasttoWest · 05/11/2020 09:55

My in laws same age and very sharp. Volunteer (pre covid) on various committees and work closely with charities. Speak regularly (weekly) at church. Governors of schools. Living (pre covid) very full lives in their 70s. Very active too!

BlueThistles · 05/11/2020 10:08

The Vote was never for Biden... it was for the VP elect

Biden doesn't his left hand from his right 🙄

Elizaaa · 05/11/2020 10:46

Kamala Harris will be sworn in

That's the plan, judging by the state of him (Biden).

Hayeahnobut · 05/11/2020 11:00

Trump is 74 and Biden is 77. Comparing their lifestyles, I'd expect Biden to be the more healthy of the two.

We've become so used to shouty, ranting leaders, that when someone speaks more slowly, more calmly, we think there's something wrong with them.

Pinkiii · 05/11/2020 11:15

Kamala would do very well but the reason many won’t even for Biden is because she is VP- Deep down Americans aren’t ready for a woman (esp one of colour) to lead the country, which is a shame as looking at the countries that have female leaders, you see how well they are doing.

I think the plan all along has been to have Harris at the top but she couldn’t get there on her own.

AgentCooper · 05/11/2020 11:22

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

It's pretty low to misconstrue the words of a father about his dead child and that child's school child.
This x 100

And a man with Alzheimer’s could not have kept a presidential campaign going, no matter the quality and quantity of aides surrounding him. Anyone who’s known anyone with Alzheimer’s even in the very early stages would know that.

Totally agree with this. I wonder what it’s going to take for America to have a woman sworn in when she runs for president. I had high hopes for Elizabeth Warren. I was reading an article about the young Hillary Rodham (as she was) yesterday and Jesus that woman is accomplished. A law professor when she was still in her early 20s.
Aragog · 05/11/2020 11:27

I dont understand why he was chosen, better if she had been

No way would the US have voted a woman president in! Trump would definitely have won.

IamTomHanks · 05/11/2020 11:28

Exactly this. Many Democrats aren't even ready for it. We're talking about a country that uses the term socialist as an insult.

I think choosing Biden with Harris as his running mate was a good move. Biden is delightfully vanilla and an experienced politician who won't scare the moderates.

I think you will see him start working with a lot of the "scarier" Democratic candidates, the Warren's, Buttigeg's, AOC's, etc, in order to make them less scary to the moderates. He's a filler President designed to slyly usher in the next generation.

I’m not sure actually, I think a shit load of women hate trump. In fact I am unsure there is a better time for a woman to go for the presidency, than when a mysogynistic prick is in charge.

I also think possibly he’s tired but calling his grand daughter his deceased son is deeply concerning.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/11/2020 11:31

@PurplePIG1

Oooh! So no need for a further election? Shame she wasn't going for president now
Perhaps that was the plan all along, to sneak in a black woman President. I hope it happens.

I was a teacher at the same primary school for nearly 30 years. I often called children by their parent's name if they looked alike. The children just laughed.

I have four grandsons and sometimes just say the first name that comes into my head and, occasionally, one of the dogs' names.

AlternativePerspective · 05/11/2020 11:39

The ageism on this thread is rife I see.

As soon as someone has a verbal slip the calls of “they must be suffering from dementia” start. But then that’s a standard response on here isn’t it?

I think Biden sounds perfectly sound actually, even if he did make a slip up which has been explained elsewhere and has nothing to do with what the conspiracy theorists want to happen.

Trump on the other hand can barely hold a glass of water, slurs his words constantly, rants and rages and did anyone hear him yesterday morning? He sounded decidedly unwell. And that’s before we get to the fact that he’s a sexist, racist pig who deserves to be dragged kicking and screaming from the whitehouse and hauled off to jail for his crimes....

TurquoiseDragon · 05/11/2020 11:44

I have had the thought for some time that the Republicans would try the same trick to get Pence in, and sidelining Trump. Trump can get the votes, I'm not sure Pence can. And there have been questions about Trump's health, with suggestions of dementia, etc.
emilyfrost · 05/11/2020 11:47

Biden is not fit to be president, so nobody should be voting for him on that basis alone. And people should not be happy with Kamala Harris taking over simply because she’d be the first woman president.

Simply being a woman isn’t going to make her a good president, so anyone stating “we get Kamala, first woman president Smile” needs to delve further into politics than a candidates genitals.

JamieLeeCurtains · 05/11/2020 11:53

I have no doubt that Trump is cerebrally impaired, but I think that (a) it's self-inflicted through copious amounts of sherberts and uppers & downers, and (b) Joe Biden does not have that problem.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/11/2020 11:59

@AgentCooper I found it so depressing that a shouty, (failed) businessman, with no political experience and zero of his own values was voted in over Hilary, an extremely qualified candidate and accomplished person.
