How to stop a toddler hitting?

My almost 2 year old has started hitting me. It's starting to get me down, I started off telling him calmly not to and that it's not kind but it's carried on and I'm finding it hard to stay calm.
Today I was reduced to tears twice, now I'm beating myself up with guilt and about how crap I handled it !!

How do I stop him hitting me and throwing things?

You stand up, say no with very stern voice and turn your back on him. Don’t give the reaction he seeks, ignore him. If he starts throwing things at you, say no again, lift him to his room and leave him there for 2 min.
When you open door. Just say no hitting and no throwing .

You pick him up, clearly say in an authoritative voice, "no hitting" and then deposit him firmly in another room.

It's a circuit breaker, it sort of shocks them and they learn very quickly not to do it again.

Never tolerate them hitting you or laugh at it.
