Frozen Food Labelling

Every so often I sort out my freezer & it would really help if the food was labelled with the year as well as just the day & month for the use by/ best before. Does anyone else struggle with how long to keep stuff? Some of it does have the year on & then you can better judge whether to keep or chuck!

Anyone?

I sometimes try to keep on top of labelling but it doesn't really happen. I take the view that if it's frozen it'll be fine. Might be some loss of quality but it'll be safe to eat.

Also, we are very good at making dinners from UFOs - unidentified frozen objects

My MIL tries to eat meat and fish within a month of freezing but official guidance says 3 months is ok.
