Solicitors and letter?

Just wondered if anyone knew the answer to this.

If you wanted to send a letter to someone but only vaguely knew what area they lived in, could/ would a solicitor find them and pass the letter on, and if so what sort of price would they charge?

I don't think solicitors specialise in finding people.
There is such a thing as private investigators.
Solicitor has to be more expensive than a PI!

Do you need to send a legal notice to this person?

Devilesko · 04/11/2020 17:21

No, it's personal, one of those where it says "of interest" to the person.
Like in a will, but it isn't and no money involved Grin

I meant importance, not interest.
So, it's a very important letter with confidential information.

Solicitors can instruct an agent to trace a person for you. It costs around £100 plus VAT and some do it on a "no trace no fee" basis.

So yes.

I just realised you just want them to pass on your letter, not to write a letter. You could also google "tracing agents" or "investigators" (also tend to be process servers") but I don't know what the data protection rules are with them just giving the details to a member of the public.

Thank you, I don't want/ need the address.
None of the family will tell me as they know I will tell this person the truth I've found out.
Sometimes you have to do the right thing, looks like it's me that will foot the bill.
Many thanks for the replies.
Yes, all I want is the letter delivered to the person.
