Sharing rooms?

How old are DCs before brothers and sisters can’t share a room, as an occasional arrangement- holidays, staying with relatives etc. Mine are still little but I’ve just been asked how long they can share? I’d not given it much thought but what do you think?

Is there a rule? I understand where they actually live (I think then it’s over 10), but for holidays and overnight stays I didn’t know there was a rule.

I have two daughters, so it’s not something I know about, but as a child we had holidays with cousins, and all shared a big room or tent together. It was so much fun. Also I stayed at my grandmas with my brother a lot and we shared a room there. Obviously this was a million years ago.

Mine are 8&10 and have always refused to share a room together. DS (eldest) doesn't want to be responsible for youngest and insists on sharing with DH. Unless we're at grandparents, then DS, DD and I share a room and DH gets his own.

There maybe some confusion here with the rules that local authorities use to decide on housing allocation, and casual holiday and overnight stays which have no rules.

Thanks- I don’t mean rules- just what is the norm. I only had female siblings and most people I know seem to have same sex DCs.
GPs have asked with a view to future proofing their spare room! I have no idea what the DCs will need in 5 years time?

My DC (different sexes) shared together until they were 10 and 12.

FunTimes2020 · 04/11/2020 17:59

If there are twin beds it should be fine at any age for a night or two occasionally, as long as they get on! If staying a fortnight, it could be a different story.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/11/2020 19:03

As an occasional arrangement they can share at any age! My brother and I last shared a room in our 20s at the Edinburgh fringe (out parents were not there).

I think by 8 they should have separate toilets for girls and boys by school... so maybe by then?

CurlyMango · 04/11/2020 21:56

Mine ar 15 and will share. They will change separate. There is no issues.
