Would anyone be able to recommend a children's book with beautiful illustrations? I like to give a special book as a gift each year, classic or modern, in hard back. It's for a 7 year old.

Thank you!

Any of the books in the church mice series have amazing illustrations. It's not religious, its just where the mice happen to live.

Unfortunately she's probably a bit old for the Shirley Hughes books in the Alfie series. But if she has other books for slightly older children, her illustrations are stunning.

Dahlov Ipcar - The Wonderful Egg or I Like Animals. Really beautiful 1950s illustrations.

If they’re a bit young then maybe Miroslav Sasek, who did a series of books about places around the world (This is Edinburgh, This is Paris etc). The illustrations are gorgeous.

There's a wonderful anthology of nature poems called I am the Seed that Grew the Tree.

Barefoot books are worth a look - lots of differently themed anthologies of stories/poems and very striking illustrations.

On a different theme, there's an illustrated children's version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights called We Are All Born Free.

My favourite children's illustrator is called Jackie Morris but I'm not sure if she's done anything suitable for a 7 year old. Worth checking though, her illustrations are stunning.

I love the illustrations in Oliver Jeffers books. I think my favourite of his is Lost & Found.

The Mousehole Cat is a lovely story, a good length for a 7yo, beautifully written with lovely illustrations - not sure you can get it in hardback though.

I love this, as well. Wordless book - all about the illustrations.

DD has Folk Tales for Fearless Girls and the illustrations are lovely.

One I bought was Peter Pan which has a musical box playing on each page and those cardboard cut outs that open up. The last page is a huge pirate ship. It's very spectacular and beautifully illustrated. Just right for a 7 year old too. Maybe search on amazon? I got it from the Book club.

Pp already said - but Oliver Jeffers is fantastic. Especially the 'here we are , notes for living on planet earth' its a stunning book , the illustrations and use of colour are incredible and it's a lovely story with a wholesome message.

Maybe a bit obvious, but the watercolour illustrated Harry Potters are beautiful.
