Has anyone noticed that if you cancel your bank card now certain subscriptions (looking at you Google and Netflix) will continue to exit your account despite not entering the new card details? This has fucked me over this week, also surely illegal Confused

Sorry. I don’t think I understand. You’ve cancelled your debit card and ordered a new one for whatever reason and you’re cross that your regular monthly standing orders/DD payments still come out of your account?

toomuchfaster · 03/11/2020 18:56

Cancelling your card doesn't change the account number so DDs will still stand. It's not illegal!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/11/2020 18:59

Why has it ‘fucked you over’? Surely you know you always pay £x for Netflix per month and budget accordingly. Why did you think that a new card would change your standing orders/direct debits out of your account? Usually banks and cc companies ask you to check individual transactions and report any you don’t recognise but getting a replacement credit/debit card on an existing account doesn’t usually affect established standing orders/DD’s.

They are not standing orders or direct debits, every time in the past a change of card number would require you to input the new one. How the frig did Netflix even know the new details? God people on here ares so dense and obtuse.

They are subscriptions/recurring card payments.

Have you ever had to enter your account number to get Netflix?

It is because they are recurring payments. You have to google how to cancel Netflix etc.

I had this with Fit Bit and I had to go to the Fit Bit app and find manage subscriptions and cancel it that way.

I thought it was fraud as it said Google Pay and I had no memory of it, so got put through to fraud who agreed to place a blanket authority block on Google Pay until further notice.

AdventCalender2 · 03/11/2020 19:32

There is no need to call people dense.

foxyroxyyy · 03/11/2020 19:34

You are right op. It's a new thing. Now when you get a new card the bank lets all your online payments eg google have your new details before you even get the card! It's a massive piss take imo

BlackLetterDay · 03/11/2020 20:02

Thanks foxy have discovered its a visa thing, fml just another added layer of frustration in this shitty annoying world. Yes people are frigging dense when they proclaim Netflix as a direct debit or standing order and automatically think an op is wrong.
