Hi,
I've been offered a post in Oban and I was wondering if anyone had any info or advice on what it's like to live there, what the community is like. I'm looking at moving up from the Peak District, so it's a fare hike to go. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Bumping your post but I have no idea, ClrMc, it looks beautiful though. Take a jumper.

Your nearest big city will be Glasgow three hours away.

If that sounds attractive, go for it. If you like hiking, scenery, whisky and midges you’ll be in heaven.

Probably a good idea to post this on (or ask MN HQ to move to) the Scotsnet board

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/11/2020 17:29

I wouldn't, far too isolated, but maybe that would suit you?

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/11/2020 17:30

Definitely post on Scotsnet.

Hi. My friend (a Londoner originally) moved there from Kent 11 years ago and loves it. Lots of beach walks and countryside. I think the community have been welcoming, she's part of qUite a high profile choir there. She says rented accommodation is in high demand and not plentiful.

Friends moved there 15 years ago from the south coast and when they got old consider relocating back "down south". They lasted 6 months and went back.

I love Oban. Massive Tesco, M&S, Aldi so you have shops available. Lovely restaurants and Mull is a short Ferry ride and then Iona really easily accessible.

Also it’s not three hours to Glasgow, we can do the drive in under 2 hours and you don’t really need to go to the city as it’s a great well served town.

Hi,
I'm looking at moving up to Oban and as I don't know the area, am nervous about taking a flat from an online viewing without knowing the area.

Is there any areas in Oban that you wouldn't recommend for a single female please. The areas I'm looking at are a flat off Breadalbane Street, A flat by the vape shop on Combie Street and a flat above the Therapy Room on the High Street. I am just taking a flat so I can discover the area to see where I want to buy eventually, but I am very nervous as could end up with the neighbours from hell.

Any advice would be very much appreciated :-)
