When to seek advice for ear infection?

I've had minor ear pain and itching for a few days. Yesterday it became severe and my ear is very swollen. The GP has given antibiotics over the phone but mentioned something about pain in the bones around the ear being serious. I also have a compromised immune system.

I've woken this morning and its considerably worse (had awful nights sleep) and I have pain in my jaw bones around the ear. I don't have a temperature so I'm thinking to give the antibiotics time to work but I'm concerned that the infection can turn serious in the bones by the ear. Should I leave it a day or check with GP again? (I don't want to waste their time)

Call the Dr and explain the situation

Speak to your GP ASAP. If the bone behind your ear swells that can be very dangerous - mastoiditis.
