How do I reduce amount of stuff in my phone?

I keep getting messages that I've maxed out my iCloud storage. I delete a load of pictures but it's getting to the point where there are none left I want to delete. I already pay .79p extra for storage per month and now they want £2.99 for more storage so iCloud can back up.

Does anyone have any solutions to this that don't cost monthly amounts?

Thanks

It's your WhatsApp automatically saving anything you open to camera roll?

Have you got google drive - sync your photos to there and delete from your camera and image roll.

How big is your phone storage?

Thank you

I'll look at the google drive thing, I didn't know that.

The phone has 128gb storage. I just looked and it's only using 60gb of phone storage so how does that work?? It's the iCloud that's full I guess?

The message is complaining about your iCloud storage being full, yes.

You can see what the phone thinks is in it by going to Settings, your name at the top, iCloud - there's a bar chart at the top.

You'll probably find it's 90% photos, in which case you could either pay for more iCloud (you're on 50gig so it'd be £2.49/month for 200gig) or do as Arietty suggests and push photos off to another cheaper service like Google. Note that Google doesn't keep your original photos if you go over 15gig, it converts them to lower quality without bothering to ask. You'll end up having to pay someone for online storage if you don't want that, might as well be iCloud to make life easy and avoid manually managing your photos between two places.

Do you have anyone else in the house with iThings? Once you go to 200 gig you can share it with other people in a Family Sharing group which might reduce the total cost.

Oops - I malign Google Photos. It's actually much better than I thought above, 16 megapixel photos and videos 1080p or under are not recompressed, no hard storage limit:

Makes it more tempting, but still faff cleaning up.

I also periodically clean everything off my phone into an external hard drive

If you go into settings, general, iPhone storage it will show you exactly where you are using most of your memory.

Messages, large attachments sent from others, music, downloads from apps. You can also offload apps, which means they stay on your phone until the next time you want to use it, then you need to download it again

I need to print the photos in my phone, better memories. They take up a lot of space

Have you checked what’s actually stored on your iCloud. When I checked recently it still had old backups from previous phones and iPads
