Shamelessly posting here for traffic. If you have had a 13 yr old who has tested positive for COVID-19, were their symptoms the same as an adult or slightly different? My DC doesn’t have any of the official symptoms except a slight temperature, just above normal but she feels sick, is exhausted and has a headache. She has hardly moved from the bed today and hasn’t eaten, has drunk a fair amount as I keep filling up her water bottle. I think I am overthinking and it’s probably just a bug.

Yes, my dd had it. But very different symptoms - no fever or fatigue - just a blocked/runny nose for a couple of days and no sense of smell or taste for about 10 days.

Younger people do have different symptoms from I’ve read. Id get a test for the temp.

It wasnt my DC who had it, but my friends DC who is 13 and she tested positive with a runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, a bit of nausea and a slight headache. No coughing at all and no temperature. She tested as both her parents had tested positive. Teenagers do seem to get milder symptoms.

my 13 year old son had it. no temp and very mild cough, but he had a really runny nose, was really tired and drained, and said his body ached. also lost sense of smell, but not taste.

I took DD (8) to the doctor yesterday for slight temp, more tired than usual and looking a bit off. Doc laughed when I said she didn't have any official symptoms and said there is usually nothing official about the symptoms in kids. She's been tested because of known contact.

Yes, my same age teen got it. First symptom was feeling like they had eaten too much of something sweet (you know that feeling?), then a headache that lasted the day and would not go away despite drinking water/taking 1 paracetamol then the fever started.

They tested positive after a test done after the fever started.

They were fine getting better at home. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen worked to bring the fever down. Lots of rest. They were back to normal (no fever, feeling normal) pretty quickly (say if overeating feeling was evening of day 1, headache was day 2, fever evening of day 2 and day 3, they were better on day 4).

14 yr old dd had feeling sick, very small appetite but did not actually vomit. Extremely tired. Headache. And found it difficult to concentrate. Even reading a book was too much. No other symptoms.

Ds tested positive. He felt headachey mildly and had a high temperature 38.7.
This lasted only 48 hours!

PinkShimmerSparkle · 03/11/2020 09:33

Thank you, I hope all of your DC are feeling better now.
After reading this I called the doctor who advised that we get her a test.
So we have one booked for later on today.

I think DS had it. He had a headache and was laid up in bed for a couple of days. It hit him hard but he has health conditions.

Mine started with a bad stomach. Neither of us had a high temp and I didn’t have the cough for two weeks!

Rowgtfc72 · 03/11/2020 14:24

Dd had exactly the same symptons. She had 3 days in bed, only drinking, barely eating.
Word of warning. I tested positive on day 12 of her isolation.

Menomosso · 03/11/2020 14:35

@Quarantiming you took a child with suspected covid to the doctor?! I thought we weren’t supposed to go near a doctor with symptoms!

Quarantiming · 03/11/2020 14:47

Followed doctors instructions. She wanted to see DD, so I took her. She examined her and then did a test.

ShowOfHands · 03/11/2020 14:50

My 13yo dd had it. She had a very blocked nose, earache and painful sinuses and a slight fever. Worst symptom was a terrible headache and then later, nausea and vomiting.

No cough. No loss of smell or taste.

Good luck with the test!
