What 'jobs' would you ask them to do?

My parents are having work done in their house. It's quite intrusive, no electricity or water for ages at a time. As a result they are spending their days in my house when DC are at school and I'm at work. We are currently Tier 1 - so they are fine to be here, especially as we make sure we don't 'cross over' and the tradesmen have said they will do everything to make sure the work is finished before Thursday's Lockdown. My parents are older but still active. They have watched all the TV they can stand and have asked for 'job' ideas they can do around my house as they are bored! Any ideas? They have 2 days to fill! The house is quite clean and tidy. I'm struggling for inspiration to be honest.

Inside all the kitchen cupboards, any gardening need doing?

RandomMess · 02/11/2020 21:55

Fridge deep clean.

Freezer list (defrost if not frost free)

Kitchen deep clean

Thanks, I'll suggest Dad could sweep up some leaves. One of my Mum's friends died recently and she (my mum) wanted company so she sat on a stool and made cups of tea while I deep cleaned the kitchen. Kitchen has never been so clean! She talked and I listened. We drank tea and I was constantly weeing because of all the tea!

Jobs waiting to be done in my house :

Label some photos and sort out all my photo albums and label them
Plant some bulbs to look forward to in the Spring
Make the Christmas Cake (would have to shop first)
Write Christmas cards - always more time consuming than I expect - even if they wrote the envelopes and left the message / signing for you ?
Begin some Christmas shopping
I've got a bench in my garden that needs rubbing down and re-painting
If I had time, I'd make some cakes and then deliver a slice or two around to various friends that I've not been able to see (just a slice, left on doorsteps and maybe a quick chat from 6' away to show them I'm thinking about them)

Disinfect and wash out your wheelie bin (or equivalent of whatever you have) and do the same for all indoor bins.

Cook a lovely meal. Batch cook (perhaps batch cook things to take home with them too).

twobrews · 02/11/2020 23:03

I can't stand anyone touching my stuff so any kind of sorting or deep cleaning would be out for me.
Happy to have help with cooking, ironing the kids clothes, putting pictures up, gardening and though.

Clean skirting boards
Drop old clothes at charity shop
Wash cushions covers and put back on
Wash bath mats (both points preferably dried outdoors)
If you're really courageous ask them to wash and rehang the curtains?
Batch cooking anything
Organise drawers I. E. Folding stuff. Putting summer stuff in storage

Sorting out the table cloth /t towel cupboard. Cut any old ones up to be used as cleaning rags.

I've a lot more if you need them!

LookatMeLookatMeLookatMuiii · 03/11/2020 09:11

Skirting boards re-gloss
General touch ups of paintwork in well used places
Gardening (leaves clearing up!)
Cupboard clear out
Clean sofa cushions / upholstery steaming
Window cleaning
Does the bathroom need a lick of paint?

Tell them to treat it as a holiday! I can understand them wanting to be busy but I wouldn't want anyone doing "little jobs" around my house!

ParisOnWheels · 03/11/2020 11:20

Getting in all the forgotten corners (by washing machine etc) for cobwebs, dust, manky skirting boards
