Hi all. I thought I'd start a thread for those who are finding it tough going at the moment. The idea is to write about anything positive you have done .... a walk, bought yourself some flowers, went to the park with your kids etc.

Please also feel free to say if you've had a tough day as well if you need to let off steam.

DP took the cat to the vet (arthritis). Community Physio home visit for me (arthritis).

There's a theme going on here.

Lurchermom · 02/11/2020 13:07

Walked the dog, made lunch and made a game meat pie (from scratch including pastry). I'm now shattered and about to go to work. Oops. Hoping my cup of tea revives me.

Pepperwand · 02/11/2020 13:08

Lovely idea for a thread. I felt very down over the weekend following the announcement of another lockdown, thank god the children can still go to nursery for now otherwise I think it would finish me off.

This morning I've been to the post office to post something to another mumsnetter from the Christmas board so I went into town with the DC, we went to a charity shop and I let them choose some new (to us) books to buy.... love the charity shop for books.
I then treated us all to brunch in a café as we won't be able to do that for a while. DC shared pancakes with berries and I had ciabatta with poached eggs, spinach, avocado, black beans and tomato and a latte. It was lovely and definitely cheered me up!

CoronaIsShit · 02/11/2020 13:09

Managed to get an earring back that was embedded in my earlobe out myself, without the need to contact my GP. My great achievement of the day! Note to self > wear hoops only from now onGrin.

Got DC up dressed, breakfasted and off to school.
Put a wash on, made beds, cleared kitchen.

Loads of other house stuff needs doing which I really can’t motivate myself to do. Really shouldn’t have taken a day off from the gym as I would have probably done it all as soon as I’d got home if I’d gone, rather than sitting down and watching crap on TVHmm.

hopeishere · 02/11/2020 13:09

Loads! I've a day off so...

School run for DS2 - first time as he usually gets school transport
Picked up prescription for DH
Got petrol
Posted two returns
Went to boots
Bought facecloths
Returned a dress to H&M
Went to Lakeland and Pets at Home
Got a takeaway hot choc
Did some food shopping

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 02/11/2020 13:21

Packed DC off to school - hopefully they will be there until the Xmas holidays..
Long swim - while I still can... really lovely
Worked all morning
Nice coffee
Delicious 😋 brunch of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
The sun's come out - a walk in the woods before DC come home

I'm feeling good today despite the looming LD. I plan to walk a lot and keep doing Pilates etc online - exercise and fresh air are absolutely key for me. And, unfortunately, cutting back on booze....

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 02/11/2020 13:28

Chucked the broody chicken out of the nesting box for some brekkie. Drove the loudly shrieking car to town to get looked at. It's not at all well. On the way back with DH, called into Insomnia to get coffee grounds for the compost heap, collected the Tesco shop, got blocks to stand the coal bunker on, got a bag of barley seed to sprout for the chickens to liven their diet up a bit, and a bin to store it in so the mice don't eat it. Put all the shopping away. Chucked the broody chicken out of the nesting box again and closed the door. She's got no eggs anyway because we made all hers into delicious pancakes yesterday. The others aren't laying because three are moulting quite badly and the other 10 are too young, so we had to BUY eggs. With 14 hens and a rooster out the back. Seriously Hmm And even if she had eggs, I'm not letting her hatch chicks in November, that's just silly.
I'm going to take down the halloween decorations this afternoon, and cook some manner of creamy pasta thing with the leftover glazed ham from yesterday and some mushrooms and cabbage.

DelphineWalsh · 02/11/2020 13:50

This morning we went for a walk round the park which is full of squirrels today.

I've just finished the first coat of paint on the kitchen ceiling so I've sat down with a cup of tea and come chocolate raisins for a break. Hopefully it'll be dry enough for another coat before this evening.

happymummy12345 · 02/11/2020 13:57

Not much unfortunately. Had panned to be productive over the weekend and this week, but I really hurt my ankle on Friday afternoon and I'm still in a fair bit of pain now. Even just standing on it hurts and walking is even worse. So just tried to rest it as much as I can (have been walking on it a bit so it doesn't get even worse or seize up). Have to walk to school soon to pick up ds. Not looking forward to it at all.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/11/2020 14:09

Also haven’t done much due to sore ankle. However managed to clear the washing basket, do a general tidy up and treated myself to cake and a cuppa while watching a movie. Off to get youngest DC in a mo.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 02/11/2020 14:13

changed the bedding so fresh linen tonight Star
been for a 5k slow jog in the woods
taken DC2 to the playground (inset day)
watched about half of Behind The Candelabra and revelled in the campy excess (some darkness too though).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/11/2020 14:53

Worked. Very busy at work at the moment which is stressful but I'm very grateful to have a job in the current climate. I've just ordered myself a posh advent calendar as a treat.

I'm just about to do the school run, then go home and put my feet up with a coffee.

Themadcatparade · 02/11/2020 14:59

I haven’t done much but I have the girls together today Unexpectedly and they have been playing and laughing which is nice to hear!

TheySeeHerRowling · 02/11/2020 15:07

Up, breakfast etc
Took dd1 to school
Went to drive-thru Starbucks before taking dd2 to weight clinic
Supermarket shop
Lunch
Dd2 tearful about not being in school (due to ED), chatted & comforted
Took dd2 out for ice cream
Went for a run
Got ear bent by returning dd1 about not being able to plan a holiday (as if there's anything I can do about this)
Put on dishwasher

In between all those, I tried to get some work done but it feels less and less worth bothering at the moment

Am about to clean downstairs loo and kitchen before calling up dd2 school about lack of work set for her (she's in y11 and anxious about falling behind)

Of those, I guess Starbucks, ice cream and the run were positive and life-enhancing

Perhaps I should spend lockdown alternately eating and running Grin

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 02/11/2020 15:19

Zoom Zumba first thing.

Bit of dusting and hoovering. Some cobwebs had appeared.
Washed the hard floors downstairs
Cleaned bathrooms and cloakroom
One load of washing, now in the dryer.
Small Sainsbury’s trip. No SR flour and little in the way of toilet roll.
On the way back, diverted to look at the sea. Being on the beach is calming.

Yesterday was a bad day, not helped by the relentless rain. I guess it’ll be like that - not bad days and rubbish days.

Bluesheep8 · 02/11/2020 15:21

Working. As I do every Monday to Friday. And feeling very grateful to have a job. And be able to work from home.

MillieVanilla · 02/11/2020 15:24

I've had a post half term day of pottering today.
Went for a coffee with DH this morning as he is off this week, then went and supported our local secondhand shop who asked on Facebook for people to pop in as they are doing everything half price to try and grab as much as they can before the lockdown.
So I found a book I've been after for ages and a frothy, silly chick lit to keep me going.
Watched Spitting image and laughed a lot
Just sorting dinner and watching an old Rick Stein program wishing I could travel as widely!
Lovely to have peace after half term

calamityjam · 02/11/2020 15:33

Took youngest to school, washed up because the dishwasher top basket keeps coming loose. Put a wash on. Nipped to Aldi for a few bits and picked ds back up from school. I don't usually work Monday anyway, but I run a bistro with my dad and dsis and we've decided that buying produce for 2 days is pointless so I'm effectively off again for the foreseeable. We are in a hotspot in Greater Manchester, I honestly can't see numbers coming down enough by December, so I might not be in until next year. I feel lost. My dcs are almost 18 and 13, so I'm not needed as much more than taxi service really. No friends and I don't drink, already decorated during last lockdown.

DrDavidBanner · 02/11/2020 15:38

This is a great thread, thanks for starting it 😊. I felt really low at the weekend, didn't sleep well and had a few anxiety attacks. Feeling more positive today, working from home all this week so I've been getting some housework done between work which is making me feel more productive. Need to pop into the office next week so will be nice to catch up with colleagues.

This month is going to be tough so I think we just need to be kind to ourselves and each other BrewCakeFlowers

keeponspinning · 02/11/2020 15:49

I'm self-employed and my work has totally dried up. I hate Monday mornings not knowing if I will work this week. I probably should do something about it but don't really know where to start. My target market is in another country so it was hard doing business development before Covid but now it feels even harder. My regular clients aren't sending me much at all. I have been spending my time learning Spanish and listening to podcasts but haven't been able to focus at all in the last few days.

Anyway, today I sent a cheque in the post (which meant leaving the house - win!), ordered some meat from the butcher, paid for the milk delivery and made (a slightly lacklustre) bolognaise. I've also took advantage of the brief moment when the cats vacated the bed to was my bedding. Apart from that I've mainly been lurking on MN and trying to feel grateful for my lot in life. Other people have it a lot worse than me.

Thanks for this thread.

TDogsInHats · 02/11/2020 15:55

@InsaneProbably

Nice idea for a thread.

I went to the gym in the morning, since I still can. Had a nice workout. Used the good moisturiser at home after a shower.

Popped out to a shop for some bits we really needed, and while it was really busy, it wasn't panicky, and everyone and everything seemed quite orderly.

And I've built a cardboard fort for the cat. The building process was greatly impeded by the client insisting they take an active role, so it's a bit less of great fort, and more just a glorified tunnel, but oh well.

Reading your cat fort post has cheered me up no end 😺. Thank you for that Insane . I have been to work in summer clothes as it was so warm this morning, temperature now dropping rapidly and I'm indoors after walking my dog and I've kept my coat on. Only 50 days until the daylight minutes start to increaseSmile
hotchocolatey · 02/11/2020 16:16

Thanks for the good feedback about the thread. There was a similar one quite a few months ago so I can't take full credit for the idea. I've been finding it tough at times so I thought the thread might help both myself and others.

OP posts:
teddybearsbear · 02/11/2020 16:27

This thread has cheered me up I had a difficult first lockdown but an feeling more positive after recognising where I went wrong! reading about other people's days is strangely calming

Today I have got the older dc back to school and emptied the wash bin for the first time in what feels like forever

Oh also managed to sneak in a Christmas film while the baby napped... all in all a productive day

yearinyearout · 02/11/2020 16:28

Had a lovely long walk with a friend and our two dogs.

Horsemad · 02/11/2020 17:34

The fort sounds great @InsaneProbably, has the cat used it? 🙂
