Holidaying in Dorset

Currently on holiday near Dorchester in Dorset and it’s our last day - we haven’t made it to the beach yet due to horrible weather.

Any recommendations for a nice beach walk within about half an hour? Possible some crabbing? 🦀 With somewhere nice but child friendly for lunch (good seafood if possible?)

Many thanks in anticipation you all-knowing bunch. 🙏🏻

Head to osmington, there’s a lovely pub called the smugglers inn and the beach will be quieter than Weymouth. It’s a pebbly beach so more opportunity for fossil hunting than crabbing, but If you get the tide right there are rock pools

If you want good seafood, head to West Bay, but that’s a longer drive.

Hive Beach cafe is good if it's open.

West Bay! Bloody love that place, spent many a happy day crabbing in that harbour. The beach is a great walk too.

Thanks all - these are great. I think we'll head to West Bay.

Thanks for the fab recommendations, we went to West Bay & then had some lovely fish and chips in the warm at The Watch House Cafe (just off the beach).
