You mean like the old Airfix kits?

Unless you mean radio controlled yachts in which case say so and I'll ask DH.

Ooh @TeenPlusTwenties could you ask about the radio controlled yachts please? I hadn’t considered those. Are they ones you build yourself too?

Thank you for the link.

Radio controlled will be more pricey (and of course you need somewhere to sail them). DH's cost 4 figures but I'm sure you can smaller much less expensive ones.
Who is it for and what is your max price, and I'll ask DH tonight.

Actually, just look at this place howesmodels.co.uk/product-category/radio-control/radio-control-boats/ at least to get some idea of options - there are a lot!

SameToo · 02/11/2020 09:30

Eek that is expensive! I think I would max want to spend less than £200 at this stage as not sure how much it would be used. It’s for my DH but with the radio controlled ones it would be something the children would be into too so could stretch a bit more. If he knows of a good beginner one that would be great 😊

There are radio controlled model boat clubs up and down the country.
Probably about to be 'locked down', but if you are serious maybe look at what there is in your area.

DH sails 3 times a week (or is it 4?, I lose count) where they race against each other. There are different clubs / times for different types of yacht and different powered boats, and then there are scale models of real things. I can imagine yachts being more technical than powered so speed boat type things might be more fun for kids.
It counts as one of those outing mysterious 'hobbies' for MN purposes

This definitely sounds like something DH could get into! Although he may have to settle for sailing it in the bath for now 😂
