Can I spend a Scottish £10 in England?

Google giving me mixed responses. Sold something today and the lady paid with English notes and a Scottish £10! I hadn’t realised until she’d left as it looks so similar to an English £10

I think a large problem south of the birder is that they're not common access the the different sets we have circulating up here make people wary that they might not spot a forgery. I had a woaman in a PO stay testing one up yet a cab driver took one no problem at all. It just depends.

@Bairnsmum05
Sadly not, the largest note currently issued by the bank of England is the £50 note.

Brahumbug · 02/11/2020 07:02

What really boggles my mind is that the Bank of England issued £1000 notes up until 1943! A single note that would comfortably buy you a house!
Shock

Bairnsmum05 · 02/11/2020 07:16

Wow I wonder why you don't get £100 notes, I didn't know we were unusual Grin

Brahumbug · 02/11/2020 09:36

Are £100 notes common?

OddHoleySocks · 02/11/2020 09:43

Are £100 notes common?

Nope. I've seen quite a few, but I used to work in a car dealership.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/11/2020 09:46

I always spend them at the self serve till at Sainsburys. It avoids the inevitable confusion and reluctance to accept them at the staffed till

The only time we've ever had an issue was in Truro, years ago. Bought ice-cream, handed over Scottish note, young girl serving looked confused and asked boss, he said no, but DH had already licked his ice cream! So boss said OK, just this once........

Anywhere else, even in small shops, has never been a problem. Trying to use a Northern Irish note in Scotland is another story.

Trying to use a Northern Irish note in Scotland is another story

Trying to us a NI note anywhere but NI is another story.

You'd probably have more luck with Monopoly money.
