Cleaning out food cupboard - how to bin old jars of spices etc.

I'm cleaning out the food cupboard.

Wondering how to bin old jars of stuff
-like spices
-other stuff like jars of marmite, peanut, etc stuff that wasn't eaten in time before the use by date.

Do I throw the the whole jars out or do I empty the stuff into the bin and wash the jars. I can't think of any use for the glass jars etc.

I empty them and wash and recycle the glass jars.

Put the contents in the food waste and wash&recycle/bin where appropriate.

Or everything is going to landfill.

Derailing but does your rubbish definitely go to landfill? Where I live there was a new incinerator built recently. I thought landfills were full and all rubbish was being burnt now.
