Secondary school applications: anyone else paranoid that they haven't done it right when it's actually all fine?

I submitted the preferences a couple of weeks ago, and have just submitted the documents (as I'd been waiting for one to arrive). It's all done, it's all submitted. I've probably added more documents than is needed. But I've still got that niggling anxiety that something was missing or done incorrectly! I'll get DH to log on later and check. Just in case.
Anyone else feeling like me today?

Well I was slightly worrying that DD1 wouldn't get her chosen school when she went a few years back.
I knew it was stupid to worry as she is adopted so got preference over all general applicants even those in catchment with sibling.
It is just because it is important that you worry.

After someone telling me the tale of how lots of parents didn’t submit one year, as they didn’t realise there was a final submit button, I was slightly concerned I’d miss something when doing school applications. I did check everything twice!

I worried with my older DC, as those were paper applications that were handed in to the primary school secretary, and the secondary school was excellent and oversubscribed then.
I worried that our application would get lost amongst other papers on her desk, fall down the back of something etc. It was fine.

Didn't worry about the application I've just made for DD, as it was all online and I've had an email confirmation

Which year do you make the application in?

For secondary you make the application by Oct 31 of Year 6.

(For primary you make the application by Jan 15 of the academic year (1Sept-31Aug) your child turns 4, ready to start the academic year they turn 5)

I check everything like this a hundred times before and after submission and still panic hugely that I have effed it up.

Yes! Me! Did mine two weeks ago online, then had a call from the school to say my DS was on the list of kids whose applications hadn't been done yet. Proper panicked me! School said their list was a few days old so if I'd done it in the last couple of days it was fine. Still a bit panicked though...

I haven't submitted any documents, just the application form, I didn't think I needed anything else?

I've just done it today and majorly stressed about the whole thing! Especially when was entering 5th choice and under the sibling link/parent works at school option bit, it had a tick box for social reasons! Not sure if I should have ticked it or not! Stressed we've made the wrong order of choices. Picking a primary was so much easier!

Depends where you are.

The closing date here (I’m in Wales) is sometime in November. Filled out ours immediately, so can’t remember when exactly.

@ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule some of my friends did the same, it's not obvious at all when you are doing the form online. If you look at the admissions booklet it tells you what is needed. I think what happened after I'd submitted the form is that I receive a confirmation email that then mentioned uploading documents. It's the usual proof of yours and child's address, child's DOB and that you have parental responsibility.

But I wasn’t asked for proof of address and site said not needed. Did you get asked for it op?

I rang council to check but they just read back same thing from site to me

I completely remember feeling nervous that Id submitted something wrong. That I would only find out in March if I had actually done it correctly. (of course I had. She's in year 10 now!)

@MarshaBradyo from our admissions booklet. I'm surprised they don't want proof of address in your area, how can they stop people applying fraudulently without proof?

I haven’t been asked for proof of address or anything like the above! I’ve had my confirmation email but have literally not submitted any more documentation!!!! I’m in the West Midlands and not been asked for this? And now I’m panicking!!!

It just depends on your local council/ the council the school's in. This year we had to submit that paperwork when we enrolled at the school.

Same where I live. I just had to fill a quick online form out, no extra paperwork unless I wanted him to attend the Catholic school.

Totally! We did ours a couple of weeks ago and I've had two (general) emails from the LA about submitting ID since, which has made me completely paranoid that I've not filled it in properly!

I might go and check for the eleventy-billionth time actually.

Where I live (London) as long as you pay council tax at the address there was no need to send any proof. The council can match you up that way.

We had to complete a separate form for one of the schools (partially selective).

And yes I still worry I’ve done it wrong!

I think our LA check address by looking at the Primary School details of the child, and chase up any discrepancy.

@PeterPomegranate I'm also in London. We have to provide our council tax reference number alongside the other stuff.

I’m pretty sure I would have included our council tax number. It sounds like they can verify even if you didn’t know it. And will check with you if they can’t.

This was me last year. With a sibling at the school, DD was at second highest admissions criteria so unless there were 240 looked after children applying she was pretty much guaranteed a place. Still had this awful feeling I had filled the forms in wrong, she wouldn’t get a place. Sleepless night on 1 March and up at crack of dawn to check the email. All fine of course but still horribly stressful. I think as we were so happy with the school it was more important that DD went there as well. With the first, it wouldn’t have been so important as we wouldn’t have known what we really wanted.

I've done mine but not had to submit any docs. I do keep worrying I've not pressed submit though.
