@icecream2965

1.

It took me a long time to get to this point. Much happier stomach.

I am struggling to understand how to cut down from here, as if I put a teabag in 1/2 cup of water surely that's the same amount of caffeine as 1 cup...so do I brew a normal tea and drink half the amount? Obvs there is the 'don't leave the teabag in as long' stance but that's a ridiculous idea Smile.

It's only green tea but I would like to do without it, minus the horrendous death's door feeling of caffeine withdrawal Grin

I'm really caffeine sensitive. I only have one cup of tea a day and without it, I get a headache. I cut out caffeine a few years ago and it took a good couple of weeks not to feel headachey and awful in a morning. However, I couldn't have just one cup of tea here and there. Without fail, it'd cause a headache and palpitations if I didn't then have one every day.

So that's my choice. Have a cup every day or have none. I choose to have one. I don't drink, smoke, eat refined sugar, I exercise, eat healthily. It's my only vice and it pisses me off that I am so sensitive to it.

I can't even touch coffee.

1-2 a day. I usually a coffee when I get up and then a cup of tea when I arrive at work. Sometimes I wake up and fancy a cup of tea so have so have that instead of coffee. For the rest of the day I drink water or fruit tea. I've cut down from about 10 cups of tea a day and my sleep is much better.

FippertyGibbett · 30/10/2020 08:25

3 or 4 cups of tea 😋

DinosApple · 30/10/2020 08:26

Oh rottie I saw that and wondered what it was like, any good?

Anyone only recently taken up tea drinking?

I'm 37 and only started drinking tea in lockdown. My parents had left a massive box of Yorkshire tea for when they visited and as they didn't and still can't come over I discovered that actually I quite like a cup or two in the morning! Never been bothered before now though.

I drink herbal at work though as it's rare that the drink is still hot by the time I get to down it.

badlydrawnbear · 30/10/2020 08:27

Usually 2, because I don't really like tea very much. I like that it is warm and caffeinated and I have gradually got used to the taste.
If I am not at work, I have 1 in the morning, ideally before DC get up, and 1 after lunch with chocolate biscuits dipped in it, ideally while DC are leaving me in peace. The second one became a habit in the spring when DC were at home all the time and I needed the peace for a bit before returning to 'home school.' On work days there isn't always time for tea (or drinking anything other than a mouthful of water here and there, or eating).

Natsku · 30/10/2020 08:28

At least 6, usually closer to 10. Then I have a couple of cups of herbal tea in the evening before bed too. I feel like something is missing if I don't have a mug of something warm in my hand.

BreathlessCommotion · 30/10/2020 08:28

I love tea. I've had to cut down recently as I have become quite sensitive to caffeine, both in terms of sleep but also it's diuretic effect. I have switched to caffeine free coffee, but caffeine free tea isn't the same. There is something missing from the taste.

I used to drink tonnes of tea. I miss it

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/10/2020 08:37

Isn't red Bush or ruibos tea naturally caffeine free?

I can't stand tea at all but DH likes it but also has to watch his caffeine intake.

firstimemamma · 30/10/2020 08:37

Normal tea - 2-3 cups
Fruit or herbal - 1-2

Orangesox · 30/10/2020 08:38

Possibly 5 or 6 very large mugs (circa a pint). What can I say, I have chronic pain issues, I deal with it better if fully caffeinated Blush

Vello · 30/10/2020 08:40

6-10

Charles11 · 30/10/2020 08:41

I’m trying to increase mine. I have 1 a day and thought I could drink more tea instead of snacking, in the hope of losing some lbs.
Would it work?

Vello · 30/10/2020 08:45

Tea is really good for you! Definitely replace a snack with a cup of tea.

examine.com/supplements/theanine/

Just don't have sugar in it.

Pennybubbly · 30/10/2020 08:45

1 Yorkshire tea a day (I'm not in the UK so use sparingly)
1 decaf coffee a day

Green tea contains as much caffeine as normal tea by the way

lazylinguist · 30/10/2020 08:50

Between 2 and 4. If I have one in the evening it's always decaf or herbal (chamomile, peppermint or rooibos- and yes, I know they don't really count as tea!). Caffeine in coffee really affects me, so I only drink decaf.

I don't know why anyone would particularly feel the need to cut down on tea unless it was causing any problems tbh. It's not bad for you unless you take sugar. I weaned myself off sugar in tea and coffee decades ago and I can't stand it now!

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/10/2020 08:51

3 or 4. Decaf earl grey made with unsweetened coconut milk 👌

GiraffeNecked · 30/10/2020 08:54

About 10...sometimes more.

SquigglePigs · 30/10/2020 08:54

4 or 5 probably. Two back to back first thing in the morning (toddler on early wake ups at the mo), one late morning, take one back to my desk after lunch then a last one around three-ish. If I have caffeine later than that it messes with my sleep. If I want a hot drink later it's usually decaf coffee or occasionally hot vimto. My DH has twice as much, mostly because of the giant mugs!

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2020 08:56

Lots, mugs not cups. I'd guess 8 but never really counted. Only decaf after about 5 or 6 pm though. I get through nearly a pint of skimmed milk a day in it (DH has a bit of the pint but not much). I have one good freshly ground coffee with whole milk mid morning too.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 30/10/2020 09:10

I have a black coffee first thing. Then tea after that. Although in the afternoon I drink redbush tea as its caffeine free.
My three year old dd asks for a cup of tea every morning, she used to ask for a taste of mine then started asking for her own so she has a kids small mug of it every morning. Must be a girl thing, my boys have never even tried it!

OhamIreally · 30/10/2020 09:24

I make two cups of tea with one Yorkshire teabag and drink one then the other. DD is finally old enough to make tea so it's a hallelujah moment as she's started bringing me tea in bed Grin

Keepyourfaith70 · 30/10/2020 10:21

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide that's sweet :) my little girl always has her head in my mug! she loves the taste of tea. I've yet to give her a small mug yet, but I let her have a few sips of mine when its cooled during the day.

I realise it is not a cut down thread but can I recommend Tetley Rooibos Green Tea decaff?

Not sure what it is about it but its very calming, not in a sleep way, but a cleae head way. Similar to caffeine minus the er caffeine. Obvs for after you have had the actual caffine.

Sewsosew · 30/10/2020 10:27

8-10 but after 4pm it’s caffeine free bags.

Crunchymum · 30/10/2020 10:33
  1. Which has increased gradually over time.
