Dreams of hidden/extra rooms

It's been one of my most persistent recurring dreams to be living in a house and then suddenly discovering or remembering that it has extra rooms or wings. Does anyone else have this?

Nice lingle Grin

I wonder if other animals have similar themes in their dreams. Perhaps the collective unconscious is really a thing. We do seem to have similar tropes in our dreams.

I’m pleased and relieved to hear this is a thing. I have recurrent dreams in which DH and I own or buy a property which has a whole separate wing of unused rooms in disrepair, dirty and decaying. It’s not a good dream, very unsettling. I have often wondered if it means something negative or bad.

I agree dappled, they do seem to have loads of beds Confused

Gosh!

I knew it was generally a reasonably common dream. I had no idea that for so many it was such a similar dream.

Lots of people have mentioned the rooms being in disrepair or full of junk and now the bed thing.

Weird!

I used to have this dream quite frequently, and found it very unsettling, but exciting at the same time. Alongside it, I would dream that I was starting at uni (which I did in the mid 80's Grin) and trying to decide what to study. To me it was a sign of dissatisfaction and a sense that I had not realised my potential - since I moved countries to change jobs (a move which surprised me and pretty much everyone else!) I don't think I have had the dream.... I wouldn't say I feel entirely "satisfied" or that I am 100% fulfilled but my dreams are less "aagh OMG there's more to life, what have I missed?...!"

Pikachubaby · 29/10/2020 22:51

Oh yes, too many beds!

YouUnlockedTheGateAnd · 29/10/2020 22:53

Yeah. The bed thing.

How odd. So many of us...

MiniMum97 · 29/10/2020 22:53

I do this! Haven't fit a while but very often will have an epic dream and there are always hidden or secret rooms involved.

I can't believe I've found others who have experienced this. Do we think it's actually very common? Do we know what it might mean?

The dreams I have with this is are usually quite stressful, feel epic in length, sometimes scary.

The house or building/structure changes though. Once it was like loads of rooms, some hidden or secret, inside a roller coaster for instance.

Legoandloldolls · 29/10/2020 22:53

I do too. Sometimes its cellar under the real cellar which fits in with my childhood home as there is a open used coal cellar and a cellar behind in all bricked up. But in my dreams it goes down and down over three stories deep. Or again in my childhood home finding a extra loo. I love all of my dreams. They are very vivid. Mind you I have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea so I spend a far amount of timing dreaming.

I also dream.about going on the underground, really deep and missing trains, walking on the tracks. The trains are always full or I end on going in the wrong direction. Or dream of crossing the Thames but it's really fast flowing.

BlackLetterDay · 29/10/2020 22:57

@Iamagree I have an infuriating dream where I am back at school but as I'm about to take exams, I realise that I already have the qualifications. Think it's similar to the typical dream of taking exams which you haven't studied for. Different meaning maybe.

I will echo that this is my favourite reoccurring dream , always gutted it's not real upon waking and that it is interpreted as finding out something new about yourself .

GameofPhones · 30/10/2020 02:58

Yes! and I dream that there are places I have lived in but forgotten about (though in reality this is not true). Exciting dreams, and when awake I still retain some of the feeling that I might have forgotten some place that I still have title to.

In my dream, the dirty, decaying rooms In the actual house don’t make me feel too bad - I try to work out how I can put them right and look forward to it even though it’s a bit daunting.
The basement however, is always the last room I find and is vast. It is cold with floor to ceiling old, dark wood and was used as a horrible social club at some point.
The bar is still there. It feels dirty and dodgy and is too big a job for me to change.

Well...how strange! I’ve had this dream three times for three different properties that I’ve lived in (but after I’d moved out) and I’d wake up thinking...oh if only I’d noticed all those extra rooms while I lived there....very disconcerting!
