Dreams of hidden/extra rooms

It's been one of my most persistent recurring dreams to be living in a house and then suddenly discovering or remembering that it has extra rooms or wings. Does anyone else have this?

Yes.
But mine sort of does.

Plump82 · 29/10/2020 22:02

Yes! All the time. Its either a room we find full of the previous owners old possessions and they're haunted or we convert the hidden room into an amazing extension. The 1st one distresses me quite a bit and its a proper nightmare.

TheChippendenSpook · 29/10/2020 22:03

Yeah I do and it's awful!

Not had this but fascinated to hear more!

Evenstar · 29/10/2020 22:05

Me too, they are always abandoned scary places with cobwebs and covered furniture and often haunted.

Millie2013 · 29/10/2020 22:05

I have a recurring dream about this! Our house, but it has an extra floor, with lots of rooms I didn’t know about 🧐

ShimmeringIce · 29/10/2020 22:05

That’s a universal one, I think. Means something like you’re discovering hidden strengths/new skills. Wish I had it more!

IdblowJonSnow · 29/10/2020 22:06

Yes, I've had this a lot. Doesn't it represent different bits of your mind? Or something you're not acknowledging?
I had an amazing dream about this where the hidden area just went on and on. It was cool.

Greyingmumto3 · 29/10/2020 22:06

Yes but they’re really old with cracked walls

BlackLetterDay · 29/10/2020 22:06

How so lingle?

Bvop · 29/10/2020 22:06

I have this. And they’re quite nice, and it’s exciting finding them, and disappointing when I wake up and they’re not there. I like this dream!

Dinosforall · 29/10/2020 22:07

I do. I think it's because I wish I lived in a bigger house!

Northernsoullover · 29/10/2020 22:07

Yes I do! Its a really common recurring one for me.

BlackLetterDay · 29/10/2020 22:08

Yeah they can be utilitarian, or lovely, but some are awful and haunted and filled with dread and damp.

Northernsoullover · 29/10/2020 22:08

@Greyingmumto3 my extra rooms have victorian wallpaper and gas mantles. They have been shut for years but they aren't creepy.

Bumblebee413 · 29/10/2020 22:08

Yes! So disappointed to wake and realise our(2nd floor!) flat didn't have a conservatory or garden/ balcony that I just hadn't noticed before Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/10/2020 22:08

I do. Our house is too big in rl and I am always relieved to wake up and remember we don’t really have an extra wing!

Nacreous · 29/10/2020 22:09

I haven't had this but I have always had enough space in the house. My mum used to get them all the time when we lived in a small house when we were little. She said they stopped when we moved to a big enough house. So I don't think hers had any deeper meaning than a yearning for more space!

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 29/10/2020 22:09

yes I use to get this as a recurring dream, it was horrible and disturbing, the kind you think is real when you wake up

HaleNo · 29/10/2020 22:09

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I have recurrent dreams where I'm wandering through but there are suddenly changes to layout and wake up very confused.

I think it just means you feel uncertain where you are.

missbunnyrabbit · 29/10/2020 22:10

That sounds a lot like something I'd dream but don't think I actually have. I mostly dream that I'm moving into a new house and it turns out completely different to when I looked around.

WithIcePlease · 29/10/2020 22:10

I have a whole extra staircase leading to another 2 floors quite frequently. Lots of dreams of undiscovered beautiful old rooms and hallways with Minton tilled. Fairly common theme for me too

Echobelly · 29/10/2020 22:11

Loads, especially round about moving house. I think I have them less in the last few years now we've finally moved into a large enough house! I guess once I got rid of the anxiety of outgrowing our home (for various reasons we ended up in a 2-bed flat for about twice as long as we'd planned), it became less of an issue.

ImaSababa · 29/10/2020 22:11

I have this dream from time to time, and I love it!

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 29/10/2020 22:13

Yes I have this. It's a really positive dream as I'm excited to discover the extra rooms. They are always the same.
