Another pronunciation one - I say 'ridiculous' wrongly. As do lots of Welsh people I know. We don't say the first 'u'. It comes out as 'ridiclous'.

My (English) dc laugh at me when I say tooth.
I did consider calling ds Cyril just to have my dad say it a lot because it rolls around much better than when an English person says it. Grin

@C0rdelia

Can’t do the spelling but we and 2 generations down still do.

Acha vie

For something horrible.

Yep. To the dogs when they tried to roll in muck, and now to the kids (particularly the baby) when he tries to post things down the loo...

My Welsh GPs - tup as in "he is a bit tup", cwtch for cuddle although I use it to say "cwtch over" (move over), little dwt (for me because I'm the smallest) and "tutty down". If food is really nice it's beautiful. I still insist like my Gran that eating in the street is common. It is such a warm and quirky way of speaking.

MikeUniformMike and FunniesDeJardin I’ve only known “All around The Wrekin to get to Wellington” as meaning “beating around the bush”. I’ve not come across it meaning “going the long way round” so that’s an interesting, more literal usage Smile

I didn’t know the “couple” thing was Welsh! That explains a lot Grin There was me just thinking that there were some very pedantic people on the other side of the Border!

The Welsh “couple” seems nicely generous ❤️ I’ll not feel like I’ve demonstrated some feeble innumeracy next time I get pulled up for it!
