Can I save iPhone videos to eg a dvd?

I have some sentimental videos on my iPhone of family that I would like to make sure I can keep forever. There is quite a lot, probably over two hours. So big files! Does anybody know if it’s possible for me to transfer these to a DVD or some other format where I can be sure they’re safe for posterity? Or even give as gifts? Thanks in advance! I’d be really grateful for advice.

You can email them to yourself and then burn onto a DVD from a computer, or get a company to do that for you.

Thank you! I wonder if they're too big to email.
Don't suppose you know what kind of company does stuff like that?

You can connect your phone to your laptop, download the files and put them on a DVD from there. No e-mailing required.

On a computer to iCloud.com and log in with your Apple ID

Then go to ‘photos’ and your videos should be there allowing you to browse and download them
If there is nothing then you need to switch on iCloud backup, and if it is too full to have uploaded all of them then you can upgrade for as long as you need, or copy what is there, delete from your phone, wait for the next batch to upload etc

Alternatively you can use another host such as Microsoft, Dropbox etc
You can set these to automatically synchronize photos and videos or select and transfer the specific ones you need

To send specific videos:
On your iPhone browse the videos,
Either open an individual video and click the ‘square box with a vertical arrow’ icon
Or choose ‘select’, tick a few videos and then click that box/arrow icon

Assuming you have set up Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox etc, then you can select these from the icons shown or actions list

Once you have the videos hosted you could share links or download to a computer

With some DVD players you can just copy the videos onto a writeable DVD and they will play, but it is neater and will work with more players if you ‘author’ a ‘proper’ DVD with DVD software - which can be free

You are all wonderful, thank you. @tommika is there any software you'd recommend? I have a Mac.

I'm so happy, I didn't think it'd be doable!

@Dibillo

You are all wonderful, thank you. *@tommika* is there any software you'd recommend? I have a Mac.

You can write to DVD from a MAC with no extra software: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl8addfd95/mac

I haven’t made a proper DVD for years, and then I was on Windows PCs and would generally use CyberLink PowerDVD or PowerDirector?, Ashampoo Burning Studio and a few more - I would get the PC magazines with software disks (and if they came with a proper case then I would raid the cases and print custom labels to make my DVDs look better)

These look like they are available for Mac now with free or trial versions

I tend to keep my iPhone photos and videos on my phone / the iCloud so I can easily find them, but I also copy everything to external hard drives every now and again.
I would recommend making a copy of the files to DVD and/or an external hard drive just for a safe copy. (Remember to ‘finalize’ DVDs to make sure they are more compatible)
(The more copies you have in different places the better - especially where there are memories to look back on)

An ‘authored’ DVD increases the chances of playability, but it’s satisfying to create your own proper DVD with a suitable photo (or even animated film background) and working buttons to choose different videos where appropriate. I would use their templates and wizards.

Check out the CyberLink and Ashampoo websites for free / trial downloads and try them out

@tommika oh my gosh that is so useful, thank you so much. I need to look into an external hard drive and good writable DVDs. Thank you so so much!
