Attempting to eat ALL the shopping the day after delivery

Is this just me?

We had the Asda shop arrive yesterday and today I've been super distracted working from home, while attempting to eat all the delicious things I've bought.

Naturally Sun-Tues was lean pickings in the house (because I hold out on ordering for as long as I can). Drinking black coffee and a tinned fruit salad for breakfast...I ordered milk so I was not going out for a bottle!

But today....oh the cupboards are brimming, the fruit bowl is fully stocked and PEAK freshness, the fridge is packed with snacks, milk and veg. Delightful.

And it is yummy. It's just the two of us. I do all most of the cooking so I'm not eating dinner foods or depriving anyone. But oh my goodness, it's like everything is at it's best, and I have to try it before it goes. You know how the fruit bowl starts to sag, the cupboard gets less and less exciting, and the fridge...

Is anyone else particularly hungry the day after the shop...and attempt a new record in how fast you can eat all the good stuff....

My kids have a good go at the fruit and chocolate in our deliveries before I’ve even unpacked the frigging box.

Jericoo · 28/10/2020 18:13

Yes, I do the same! Especially when I've gone out to buy the shopping and I'm knackered and starving - when I get it delivered I can exercise more self-restraint generally

SausageRoll2020 · 28/10/2020 18:32

Personally, I think you should congratulate yourself on eating all the good stuff the day after and not on the day it arrived.

Not that I'd ever do such a thing of course... Haha.

It's probably something to do with humans being genetically wired to eat more when there is variety available.

I think I need to buy less variety of cakes and biscuits Blush

It’s never bothered me but DS starts picking through the bags as I bring them in from the car 🙄

mummmy2017 · 28/10/2020 18:54

I got a big tin of Marvel so I don't have to shop if no milk, means I can push shopping a few days each time, and means we have little waste.

YoungDino · 28/10/2020 18:57

Hahaha

I'm the same.

However, I try to go to the shop every other day just to get out and about so I've not faced slim pickings in a good few months.

This is such a childhood memory for me. Shopping day was buzzing.

Fresh cheese topped rolls, crisp grapes, and a chance to see what goodies might appear in this weeks lunch boxes.

The 3 of us kids would be in the bags as it was being unpacked. Must’ve driven mum crazy but such a fond memory...

Ginfordinner · 28/10/2020 19:04

Why not just not buy snacks, but food that has to be prepared and cooked?

KenzoBaby · 28/10/2020 19:13

Yeah, on Sunday I didn't even have any eggs in the fridge, that is unheard of! Was making a meals out of a piece of cheese and some walnuts. (No DCs here so no need to phone social services!)

But yesterday I did a BIG shop (spent £100) and today I've had eggs, a tangerine, turkey chilli, apple, fish, salad, blueberries and chocolate. Probably £10 worth of food.

I've also done all my laundry and ironing so I'm winning at housework today. I feel so cosy and safe when the laundry is all put away and the fridge is full.

I'm similar to you but focus on toilet paper.

You try and use it all in 1 day?

or you eat so much that you worry you will run out of loo roll?
grassisjeweled · 29/10/2020 01:04

Great op, very wholesome and 'hygge'

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/10/2020 01:15

I love sitting at the table with dd and eating all the crunchy fresh salad leaves, cucumbers, tomatoes smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise, etc. A nice little savoury feast!

By the time I've finished shopping, I'm too lazy to cook!

I just love that quilted stuff, so I use it all up before the rest of the family can get to it. After that we back to using the sponge on a stick or 'xylospongium' as we called it in our house.
