Fucked up again at work - tell me I won't get fired!

I've managed to fuck up AGAIN at work on wanking Teams.

Managed to send an invite with 2 links included. I made this mistake last week too then managed to screw up again this week! I double checked the email! There was only 1 but it seemed to generate 2!

Sure I'm gonna be fired

Yeah that's the story about Toobin, I don't really believe it, seems like some kind of fetish thing, he was probably getting off on the fact he was jacking off in a work situation

Not as bad, but about 10 years ago I worked for a company that did sales demonstrations on the phone and shared their screens to show the product. A colleague finished the demo and ended the call, but forgot to stop the screen share. Then he proceeded to look up the (female) prospect on LinkedIn, Facebook, Google her name...

He didn't get the sale.

Does anyone know if you update an invite in Outlook, it then changes the original invite sent?

I removed the second link, then when I go back to when it was sent (Monday) the second link is no longer there? So the original has been edited automatically?

Surely a "cock up " is essential if you're on a wanking team ?

Can't get far with a cock that isn't up.

Remember when someone broke the entire NHS mail network by sending to the global mailing list (every single user) and then loads of people replied all? At least you didn't do that OP!

And I think when you update meeting details in outlook it sends the new details to everyone?

@FishDontHaveFingers

Doesn't sound like a sackable offence, but I am intrigued and mildly concerned by the phrase 'wanking teams'.... Grin

Unless you were actually wanking on teams I think you are ok.. you weren’t were you?

I think the issue is you’re copy and pasting

The invite is set to generate the dial in link automatically. So when you copy and paste one in, it then generates a second. So you send two.

If you’re not sure how to do it is then send yourself an invite. Just to you and work it out from there.

I don't think anybody would even register that in our workplace. I don't think you need to worry.

Haha I set up a zoom meeting along with actual attendees....my manager completely forgot about the zoom attendees and just held the meeting with those in the room. I'm so professional I couldn't stop laughing at the thought of all those people just sat in front of their laptops expectantly......she was horrified 🤣

That really doesn't sound like much of an issue to me OP. The other week my boss arranged a large essential training event via teams, invited everyone except the trainer. It was 10 mins of us all sat staring at nothing before someone figured it out Grin. Everyone laughed it off as these things happen.

This hardly sounds like a sackable offence but maybe you should either get IT to look at your install, or get a colleague to talk you through how to use Teams / Outlook properly.
If you created a new Teams meetings in Outlook and then pasted in details from another meeting you will end up with 2 links to join the meeting. You'd be best to forward the original meeting invite to the additional people you wish to invite.
If you update a meeting invite e.g. change the time then it shouldn't add links.

I imagine that having a team wank at work probably is a sackable offence grin

@starfishmummy You've obviously never worked in advertising.

@ADrabLittleCrab I think chairing a meeting where some of the attendees are on telephone/video and others are physically present is a whole new skill set. I've always preferred to video in, at least then (in my office's set-up) your somewhat of a 'presence' in the room. On the phone it's horrible (especially if you use a mobile and they use a conference phone). I once joined a meeting where the meeting was half-way through before I realised there were actually other women in the meeting, as so far I only heard 2 or 3 people (guys) and nobody had introduced anybody, so I had no idea.

At least now with Teams and everybody working from home it's becoming so much more normalised to let everyone speak in turn, to use the 'hand up' signal to let others know you have something to add, etc. Still works best, in my opinion, if everyone has video enabled (if they can) as seeing only the avatar amongst the faces makes you lose track of someone easily.

I do things like this on a daily basis at work and nobody bats an eyelid. Don't worry about it, its a mistake not a sackable offence. I doubt anyone will even think twice about it

Disclaimer : I was not wanking on Teams.

@Modestandatinybitsexy

That doesn't seem like a major cock up. Surely you can just send an amendment with the correct link?

Last week I managed to send a bulk email with everyone's private email addresses in the to box rather than bcc. Mistakes are human, just do what you can to correct it and move on.

You don't work for DCP or DP do you?! GrinWink

Report

Not a sackable offence. Just apologise x

Report
theemmadilemma · 29/10/2020 10:03

When you update the meeting in Outlook it should show send update.

When you schedule a teams meeting it should add the link automatically to outlook event? You shouldn't need to be pasting anything in if you're click Teams Meeting in Outlook.

If you're struggling with these things, google them and be sure you understand how they work. Do some tests and make sure you know how it works going forward.

For now, not sackable. But demonstrate you've now educated yourself.
