I can not believe I’ve just turned the radio on to hear Zoe ball singing ooh Gary Davis Ooh Gary Davis. FFs I’m sure he was in Steve Wrights slot last week I thought I’d gone back to 1985. What is their appeal?????

By the time Steve starts with his serious jockin tosh of a Friday afternoon we've had enough at work and he gets switched over.
The singing, the factoids and do not get me started on the Alan Bennett business which is so tone deaf I don't know how he gets away with it. Just no.

I'd take one for the team and get locked in with Steve Wright then come back here and tell you all the secrets. Or at the least the secret of how he's still on the air.

Iamthewombat

shouldn't she be in church? When does she do any reverending?

torquewench · 29/10/2020 05:00

What happened to Sarah Kennedy? I used to have to endure her nonsense and made up words when an ex had a radio alarm set to r2 and it was always her show that was on. Used to love it when Alex Lester had to cover for her when she was off. Which was often.

I prefer bbc radio because there are no ads. I must be getting old listen to Ken and enjoy the show. I enjoyed Scott mills standing in for Steve wright , perhaps he will take over? Why is Steve Wright on everyday except Saturday ? Can’t stand Elaine Paige show I always think she’s quaffing champagne , dislike JV always switch him over.

Steve Wright and Ken Bruce are the comedy tie wearing annoying people you find in offices. They think themselves highly amusing but they are not. Always change stations when they are on.

wowfudge · 29/10/2020 08:03

Sarah Kennedy left Radio 2 ten years ago. The schedule was changed when Chris Evans took over the breakfast show and she left, but there had been rumours about an alcohol issue for a while - slurred speech, saying inappropriate things on air, etc. She was convicted of a drink driving offence in 2014.

I used to love Gary Davis! No to Steve Wright though-very irritating.

I would very much like to be locked in a room with Greg James though. Grin

IOwnDogsNotFrogs · 29/10/2020 08:13

Love Gary Davies! He is God of the 80s.
Steve Wright is ok but wish he would stop singing over the songs.

SpamandSparkle · 29/10/2020 10:24

Gah...... Steve Wright is my idea of hell!! He must truly have the dirt on someone high up in bbc to continue to have 6 shows a week

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2020 11:03

Ahh, Gary Davies. I had the biggest crush on him when I was about 16 and listened to his Radio 1 show every day.
Here’s a pic from the good old days for those too young to remember him.

I need to know what your teenage selves found charming about Gary Davies. I am baffled! As much detail as possible, please.

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2020 11:48

The bouffant hair-do, permatan, bushy eyebrows and dodgy fashion sense obviously! Grin
To be fair it was the 80s, the decade that style forgot.
Seriously though he had a lovely voice and still has.

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2020 11:51

See, he’d have fitted right in as a third member of Wham!

OhMsBeliever · 29/10/2020 12:28

Blimey, I've just googled Gary Davies as I had no idea what he looks like now. He's actually got better with age!

Still annoying though. Grin

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2020 12:33

To answer the OP’s question, Steve Wright definitely. Couldn’t stand him even back in the 80s! Off went Radio 1 as soon as he came on.

Iamthewombat · 29/10/2020 22:06

See, he’d have fitted right in as a third member of Wham!

Yes, he could have passed for George’s dopey cousin, drafted in to play the stylophone.

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2020 22:19

Harsh but true, Wombat!

PolaDeVeboise · 29/10/2020 22:39

Steve Wright, without question. As PP's have said - he knows where the bodies are buried. Am an eighties girl and LOVE oooh Gary Davies :D Also a major fan of Sarah Cox, who is apparently, LOVELY. Friend works at Beeb.
