Is your idea of hell being locked in a room with Gary Davis or Steve Wright?

I can not believe I’ve just turned the radio on to hear Zoe ball singing ooh Gary Davis Ooh Gary Davis. FFs I’m sure he was in Steve Wrights slot last week I thought I’d gone back to 1985. What is their appeal?????

OP posts:
notonmytime · 28/10/2020 14:12

I am happy with Vanessa Feltz standing in for Jeremey Vine though.

notonmytime · 28/10/2020 14:13

And also don't mind when it's Paddy O'Connell.

BradTomby · 28/10/2020 14:13

I find Steve Wright intensely irritating. The factoids and on Fridays dropping the 'g' arrrggghhhh!

Not to mention the singing along.

Iamthewombat · 28/10/2020 14:15

I bloody love Ken Bruce. I wish he did the breakfast show instead of Zoe Ball. I don’t understand why she is paid so much. I truly cannot see her appeal.

notonmytime · 28/10/2020 14:19

I also find Ken Bruce less annoying than I used to. I don't mind him now, but a few years ago didn't like him. Something changed.
Maybe Sara Cox would be better for morning show than drivetime show. It is a wackiness and loudness that grates in the evening.

notonmytime · 28/10/2020 14:20

But I like her on the social history programme on bbc2 (Back in Time?) -she is calmer on that.

NerrSnerr · 28/10/2020 14:26

I don't mind Steve Wright, I find his show strangely comforting. Gary Davies butchers popmaster, not as bad as Trevor Nelson mind but yesterday's was awful. No one could ever live up to King Ken though.

I'm easily pleased though, like Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and everyone in between.

ShinyRuby · 28/10/2020 14:29

I'd rather listen to Gary Davies than Zoe Ball, I really like her on most things but she comes across as so very desperate not to offend anybody on Radio 2 telling us how much we love everything/everyone. Those awful 'winning at life' texts, I've been up since 4 & baked cupcakes blah blah, grrr.
Steve Wright is just the same as he was in the 80s, those endless Alan Bennett impressions are infuriating.
I used to love Popmaster but it just reminds me of lockdown now.
I'm listening to Greatest Hits Radio a lot now, it's generic but got a few good shows with Simon Mayo & Mark Goodier.

wowfudge · 28/10/2020 14:37

Definitely Steve Wright - I've heard he's not a pleasant person.

Peridot1 · 28/10/2020 16:07

I think I’m sick of them all!

Zoe and Sara talk too fast. Take a bloody breath woman! Noticed Angela Scanlon was the same a couple of weeks ago filling in for Dermot O’Leary. It’s as if they are paid by the word.

I miss Simon Mayo a lot. Really used to enjoy Drivetime. It’s so inane now. It’s not too bad when Vanessa Feltz fills in.

Ken can be a bit weird but is probably the best of bad bunch.

Yes! This, exactly!
thaegumathteth · 28/10/2020 16:16

I've no idea who Gary Davis is. I thought Steve Wright was Dr Fox and Google's just enlightened me otherwise.

TheOrchidKiller · 28/10/2020 16:43

Steve Wright- actively avoid him. He doesn't seem to have grown up since I listened to his radio 1 show in 1990.

Do you think Gary still has the perma-tan & patterned jumpers?

I know I am middle aged because I now like Ken Bruce.

theliverpoolone · 28/10/2020 17:27

I know I'm in a minority, but I prefer Gary Davies to Ken (and to Steve, but that's less of a minority view!). So this week and last have been great for me. My other apparently minority view is that I like Zoe in the mornings Blush

Vinorosso74 · 28/10/2020 17:31

Steve Wright should have been put out to pasture a long time ago.
We've been watching old TOTP on BBC4 and Gary Davis appeared the other week,I commented about wondering what he's doing now. We also saw Bruno Brooke's presenting an episode.

nosswith · 28/10/2020 17:39

Steve Wright is almost as unfunny as Mrs Brown's Boys. Should have been retired years ago, an example of how the BBC flog dead horses.

RainbowParadise · 28/10/2020 17:40

I feel like BBC don't offer anything for me at 32.

Steve Wright is awful. He definitely knows where all the bodies are, why else would they keep him.

I don't like listening to Zoe Ball or Sara Cox, I used to like her on R1 when I was a teenager though. Never liked Jo Whiley.

I miss Simon Mayo's show. I used to like Dermot more on a Saturday afternoon.

I mostly listen to R1 though to feel young 😂

XylophoneXavier · 28/10/2020 17:46

Steve Wright's Sunday love songs is my idea of hell.

If we have to go out anywhere on a Sunday morning I threaten the DC that if they don't hurry up and get ready, I'll put the godawful love songs on the radio.

We haven't been late yet...

janj2301 · 28/10/2020 17:55

Love Johnnie Walker and Tony Blackburn, showing my age. Have to listen to BBC radio as i CAN NOT BEAR ADVERTS. Anytime I switch to magic as soon as the ads come on I try and switch but all the commercial stations seems to run ads at the same time. I use the BBC sounds app and just listen to the shows/presenters I like, the above plus Lisa Tarbuck and Ken. I know this is sacrilege I can't stand pop master

hollyandkit · 28/10/2020 17:59

Simon Mayo has a show on Greatest Hits radio on Sunday lunchtimes, the album show I think it's called. I love hearing Gary Davies again - I remember listening to him in the school summer holidays, he used to tell you when it was time to turn over when suntanning!

Jemenfouscompletement · 28/10/2020 18:02

I know I am middle aged because I now like Ken Bruce.
GrinMe too. Couldn't stand him before. But he does indeed make broadcasting sound easy. Can't stand the traffic guy, though.

jambeforeclottedcream · 28/10/2020 18:03

After Gary's absolute car crash of a popmaster. I'd have to choose him

What's wrong with Steve Wright, I really like him

Lalalatte · 28/10/2020 18:04

The only current radio 2 presenters that are any good are Graham Norton and Alan Carr and Mel Sykes who do the same Saturday morning slot.

Simon Mayo is on radio 5 doing the film show- on Friday afternoon. I also like the guys on before them on radio 5 Ellis and John ( I think )

felineflutter · 28/10/2020 18:09

and it could be worse - they used to have the Red Dwarf guy stand in for Steve Wright a lot. I could not listen to that.

Craig Charles is a fantastic DJ and has great taste in music.

jambeforeclottedcream · 28/10/2020 18:10

I'm not keen on Zoe Ball, Jo Willey or Sara Cox. I think it's because I remember their radio 2 personnas and it just jars a bit on radio 2

I like Graham Norton, Michael Ball, Rylan & SteveWright. I don't mind the odd Alan and Mel show but not for the months in end they do in the summer .

don't like Elaine Paige,

Everyone else is just a bit meh
