You can get fibergel from the chemist it's very good tastes awful though

FlibbertyGiblets · 27/10/2020 22:57

Inthesameboatatmo why would you recommend a laxative in these circumstances? OP Please don't.

Talk to your pharmacist, they might have some advice or short term otc med suitable; be prepared for them to tell you to consult GP if it carries on much longer.

Do you have much dairy in your diet? Not unusual to get temporary lactose intolerance after a diarrhoea and vomiting bug. Can be worth a trial of cutting dairy out.

Fybrogel bulks the stool and it says on the packaging it may help. I would eat a very plain diet for a couple of weeks.

Fybrogel is not a laxative and is frequently recommended by doctors for people with chronic loose stools be it due to ibs or after illness or surgery.

Fibre is a bulking agent. Some it works for but for some it causes bloating and discomfort initially and for some that doesn't go away.

Other options are Imodium (but get liquid to try tiny doses and see what works) and longer term taking probiotics and eating prebiotics. If this is new for you and continues or gets worse I'd consider medical advice but realistically a couple of weeks of loose stools without other symptoms wouldn't concern them.

Fibre and eggs and no spice and easy on caffeine and alcohol is a good first line of attack.

Agree about temporary lactose intolerance - switch to lactofree dairy for a while. Loperamide is great for slowing down gut activity but resist the temptation to take the full daily dose. Something with clay in such as the super drug wind tablets might ease the associated discomfort and firm things up. A bit.

Flibbertygiblets
It's not a laxative do some googling

Thanks all. Yes I eat quite a lot of dairy so will cut back and visit a chemist.

Speak to your doctor before taking anything. You may be recovering from a bowel infection, if you slow it down with stool thickener, it could get much worse by allowing further infection to get a grip. Really speaking your doctor should order a stool sample test to ensure the original infection has cleared up
