U17 driving lessons

Are these worth it for teens ahead of turning 17, getting provisional license and starting proper lessons?

They weren't a thing when I learned to drive, but it seems that a few driving schools now do special U17 lessons on private land.

Young Driver is good.

Thanks Curly, that was who I saw first. They seem to be quite a bit more expensive than a few local driving schools though.

Are they more about a fun experience or learning though?

I do want it to be fun but don't want bad habits to have to be undone when doing proper lessons later.

I suppose that with a local instructor what you lose with it being in a smaller local car park you potentially gain with continuity to full lessons?

When I learned to drive I'd say 10% of it was car control. 90% was learning to deal with the roads and the other idiots on them. So I'm not sure how useful such a thing would be. If a teen wants/needs to learn and pass as soon as possible I suppose it gives them a headstart.

Dds been doing them since she was 11. Shes 13 and a half now. We do maybe five a year as its expensive.
She drives really well. Can reverse park, emergency stop, park in a garage.

It's fun, she enjoys it, but we mainly did it so when she has proper driving lessons on the road she doesnt have to master the mechanics of driving, just learn how to drive with the other muppets on the road!

We use vauxhall young driver. Worth a look.

Yeah, when I learned to drive I think I spent two one-hour lessons going over car control and on the third lesson my instructor announced that I was to drive home. I was out on the roads after that so not much time wasted.
