Just appeared on our sofa. Much screaming. Is now outside unharmed. But WTF is it?

Thank you. It is beautiful but I’m not totally comfortable with spiders (but never harm them)

I refer to these generically as "garden spiders" - unusual to find one inside although one did live in my kitchen window all summer once happily eating flies. I was quite happy to leave well alone, although I'm terrified of house spiders!!

Come autumn my OH released her safely back out into the garden.

I agree now - a Garden Orb - I don’t mind them in this country as long as they don’t take me by surprise.
